Great News - OK to carry CHL in Bass Pro!

Post by Shadowboxer »

Maybe I've misread things here on this forum, but I was under the impression that you HAD to declare your CHL weapon at the door.

So I contacted the management of the local Bass Pro here in Dallas.

From an email I received this morning in response to mine:

Dear [my name here],

Thank you for taking the time to email us, customer feedback is a critical part of our business plan. f you are coming into the store you do not have to declare your firearm. The only time it has to be locked is when the firearm is no longer concealed. If you were to come in and shoot at our range your firearm would have to be locked when exiting the range.

Again if you are just shopping you do not have to have your firearm locked.

Please let me know if I can assist you in any of your purchases,

Carry was always OK. You only had to declare if using the range, at least that was my experience.

I will never shop at Bass Pro! A couple of years back I was at the mall across from the Opry Land hotel shopping. We came outside and some VERY bad weather was hitting and tornados were in the area. My Top and I saw a tornado comming across the parking lot on the other side of the freeway and double timed it back toward the front door of Bass Pro for cover. The manager would not let any of us standing there getting hit by hail in the store. He said it was company policy during times of an emergency to CLEAR the store. One women had been hit hard in the head by a piece of hail and was bleeding. We were forced to find other shelter NOW. We all ran around the corner and the manager from the movie theater next door was waving for us to come in. So we did just as that big twister hit a few hundred feet from us. That was very bad scene and I hope to never be that close again. And for Bass Pro? I called there headquaters and filed a complaint. Still nothing to this day.

Top usually refers to a "top sergeant" or a unit's top non-commisioned officer.

I was not in military, but hanging around bases and embassies it was used to refer to high-ranking enlisted Sgt (Master Gunnery Sgt, also called Master Gunny).

Maybe he will come back and correct me.

My wife and I went to Bass Pro this last Friday (5/18). I was in my Mobility Scooter carrying my range bag. There is one man in front of me. The greeter had already stopped him and I drove through the larger gate and stopped. The greeter told us that we would have to unholster our pistols so he could lock them. I just set there. The man in front of me told the greeter "that would create a dangerous situation because my pistol is loaded." The greater continued that we must hand over the weapons. The man told him "call a manager." The greeter then told us "well this time will be ok, but next time bring your guns in unloaded." I don't know that I will be going back. The price at DFW gun range is 3X that of Bass Pro and I am cheap. ;-)

Speaking of a dangerous situation, last time I was there one of the greeters who saw my range bag and wanted to put a lock on my handgun happened to mention that he was glad my gun was unloaded. (I didn't mention the loaded hi-power on my hip)

When I asked why, he pointed to a small hole in the wall above the glass doors that lead to the hotel next door and said a customer was unloading his gun so they could lock it and had a ND right there in front of everybody. I don't know if he had a CHL or not. I hope not.

There is no need for Bass Pro to fool with a CHL'er's loaded gun. You should be able to walk or scooter right in and go to the range whenever you're good and ready!

YEP!

I also like the ideal of carrying the gun I am shooting in the bag unloaded with my carrying gun concealed. I guess I will just have to give in, but there is still some rebel in me.

Call me every dirty name in the book, and annoying to boot...

But when I see the word "lock" several times in that reply to you, it kinda bugs me a bit...

If they'd have just spent a little time looking at what they wrote (yeah Steve you do that alot! ) and replaced that term with "Keep the handgun unloaded, in a locked case"...

That sure would have improved their position and respectability tremendously...

But I'm just persnikerty that way I suppose...
