HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police are trying to determine why a man fatally shot himself while in his wife’s hospital room just hours after she gave birth.

Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says the husband, whose name hasn’t been released, died Monday at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

A spokesman for Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, where the shooting happened Sunday afternoon, says police promptly secured the area and people in the vicinity were not in danger.

While the hospital has a no-gun policy, one hospital visitor expressed concern that maybe more should be done to keep the area safe and secure.

But they had a "No Guns" policy!?! How could this happen in a gun free zone? </sarcasm>

I'm not trying to be a drama queen or a wet blanket but...this is a horrible thing!

I had a good friend of almost 30 years leave a wife and unborn child under similar circumstances. He didn't use a gun and didn't have access to one (I made sure of that).

Didn't stop him.

If the argument can be made that guns kill people, in this case shouldn't it be argued that the gun eliminated the threat?
