My XDs .45 is SN: XS541XXX so I have submitted it SA and printed the FedEx label. Now to find a box and a staffed dropoff location. My EDC is a Kimber Ultra CDP II .45 so the pain is minimal.

Thanks Andy for the alert on this.

none of your dang business.....if they press the issue i tell them it's disassembled parts. most of the time I take the slide off and the mag out and at that point it's not a working gun and there's nothing that i know of saying you can't ship parts of a gun.
If you're shipping the frame with the serial number on it then you are shipping a firearm, disassembled or otherwise.

You are required to declare that you're shipping a firearm. It's up to you if you do or not.
SA is sending prepaid shipping labels...they should already be set up as a firearms shipment I would think...

got my shipping label last night and took it to the shipping center in Longview this morning. I asked the clerk how many she had seen today and she said not a single firearm. I started to not even worry about the recall, but with some 186k units in the recall I figured to go ahead and ship in the first early wave in case I changed my mind to not ignore the situation next month.

I still wonder if there really was a design flaw that absolutely needed to be addressed, or if all the hype over safety issues from a very small number of the XDs line could have just been a few lemons that slipped through with manufacturing flaws. Either way, Springfield is doing good PR in taking some type of action.

mr surveyor -I would think the piece of mine is worth it to send it in.
I'm seriously thinking of getting a XDS in 9mm. I already have full size guns. My big questions is what about the guns in the stores?
Will they be recalled through the dealer before sales? (Sorry if this was already addresses) :headscratch

Save the recall URL onto your phone and check the pistol's s/n before buying ;)
Thanks AndyC :thumbs2: I saved the recall numbers.

You can ship a firearm through FedEx. They have confirmed as long as it is going to a FFL you are good to go. You don't want to drop it in a box. Go to a location with people present!

Well mine is on the list. Should I ship it in the factory case or just a cheap case?

No matter how small the chance, a truly accidental discharge could happen any time you loaded it, and it could double fire on any pull of the trigger.

Even if it only happened once after 10 years, that's way more than I'd be willing to risk it. If the unintended discharge injured someone and the investigation showed that the owner didn't respond to the recall notice, I wouldn't want to place bets on that circumstance being any help whatsoever to the defense.

Actually as an FFL dealer, we called Springfield early in the morning. They have expedited service for dealers. We shipped today all the XDs in our stock. They wont tell us an ETA for getting them back. :cryin

We spend the rest of the morning calling customers who bought or transfer them, 90% of our customers did NOT know about the recall. :nono:

Dangit! My gun's serial # falls into that range. :grumble
cajunautoxer wrote:You guys actually expect a brand new gun design to not have a recall? That's why I'm waiting a couple yrs before picking up a xds
Yes, I seriously do expect it. I expect that a quality company like Springfield has tested and retested and tested to failure any product it releases exactly so that any possible problems like this get found before releasing them into the market. Besides, it's not like every single new model out gets recalled. It's actually a fairly low percentage of all new guns. On top of that, I just bought mine on July 5th, and the XDS45 has been out for how long now? I've seen reviews of it going back to before June of 2012, so that's more than a year.

FWIW, I've had no such malfunctions in my own.
