Profiled at WallyWorld?!

Post by circumspice_tuebor »

I stopped at one of the local Wally World's today after dropping my recalled XDs .45 off at FedEx. Definitely not a Wally Walk since the XDs is my once and future EDC.

I needed shower soap and band-aids, but as always headed back to SG to check the ammo situation. Nothing interesting wrt my usual stalking interests (9mm, .45, and .223/5.56), but I am breaking in a new Mossberg 930 JM Pro and decided to pick up four boxes of Win AA Heavy Target Load.

When I got to the register, the clerk asked me if I wanted to split my goods into two purchases, sundries then ammo. :headscratch

I inquired as to why I would want to do that. The response: "We'll, in case there are problems later." :headscratch

I said sure, and paid for the ammo with my Amex Gold Card. :evil2:

I thought about this on the way home. Did the clerk think that I maybe couldn't afford the ammo? Why?

I'm a 6'4", 300#, 48 year-old Caucasian male. I'll admit that I wasn't looking my sharpest today: untucked grey pocket T, khaki cargo pants, black NB running shoes, two-day beard. Hey, it's a holiday and this is Wally World.

Thoughts?

All I can think of is that maybe he thought you might not want their customer service rep knowing you bought ammo if you had to return some of the other stuff?

I would've asked what problems he/she thought I should anticipate and would avoid by splitting the purchase.

Either that or maybe he's heard there's been some problems with that ammo and thought it would be easier to return to Walmart or the manufacturer if that were the only thing on the receipt. IDK

A return situation is perhaps the most plausible explanation. I didn't make the purchase at the SG register, so I'm a little less inclined to believe the clerk knew of any specific problems with the ammo.

I'm not angry or pushed off-center, it just seemed odd. I've only bought ammo twice through the regular registers, so maybe this happens.

Who knows. Wal-Mart clerk at SG register asked me if the ammo I bought was for use in a handgun (?). I told him, no, that
I was gonna put up 'em on a salad.

That's because they have to ID you and make sure you're old enough to buy "handgun ammo"...whatever that is.

Retailers will not exchange/return ammo once the transaction is complete. So this still remains a head-scratcher.

Maybe the worker was worried there will be a problem with the sundries and some other idiot would say they couldn't exchange due to the ammo purchase? :confused5

Never had that happen at Wally Mart. Did you have any alcohol with that purchase? Maybe he didn't want to ring up Lonestar and ammo.

I thought he was offering to put everything else on the credit card and let you pay cash for the ammo so there's no record. Some people don't want to be on THE LIST. Others might not want their spouse to know how much they spend on ammo.

I would actually prefer if they asked me. My gf would prolly yell at me for buying ammo when I was there to ONLY get food. She always looks as receipts (she's my financial officer ;p) and if she had saw that receipt, she would be furious.
