If you're saying it's a felony to carry a Kershaw Blur at Double Daves Pizza because they serve beer, can you please show me what law says that. On the other hand, if you're saying it's a felony to carry an AR15 but not a Kershaw Blur, I'd like to see that law too. (Not arguing the sign says that but without a law the sign has no force of law.)

I have been out of town for a few days and not read the forum. I had to look "kershaw blue" up on Google to see what it was. I never mentioned a knife. If the knife is not legal, you can't carry it anywhere so that is a moot point. In general, the only person who can legally carry a gun of any type into a place that sells alchohol is a LEO/Judge, etc, and depending on the liquor license, a CHL holder. Read Keiths comments here: viewtopic.php?f=83&t=68536" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I can carry inside a liqueur store and have. Big difference between a business that sells alcohol for off premises consumption vs on who sells for on premises consumption.

There is basically NO difference between the two if you have a CHL. You are legal to carry in both. What makes a difference is the type of ABC license they have (Red or Blue sign). You can carry in a blue but not in a red. You can do this because you have a CHL (I'm assuming you have one). Even with a CHL, you can't carry a long gun into that same liquor store or on-premises consumption establishment. I don't care about knives. The OP was about some dude carrying his AR-15 into Wal-Mart and Double Dave's Pizza. THAT is a felony....no more guns, no more voting, no more good job!!! Keith and Charles both agree with this. I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the box but I would for sure listen to them. I know there are many gray areas in CHL law, but this OP has NOTHING to do with a CHL holder. This guy has commited a felony by taking that rifle into a Wal-Mart (if it sells alcohol) and Double Daves. Rifles might be legal to open carry in Texas but there are many places you can't take that rifle.......Corps of Engineer land, Court houses, post offices, etc. There are exceptions and rules in the ABC code for places like Wal Mart that sell both alcohol AND guns/ammo. They are very specific and Wal Mart follows those rules.

Nobody was able to quote a law that says there's any difference between carrying a legal rifle and a legal pocket knife in a Double Daves or Circle K. Just personal opinions and hearsay,, right?

Depends on the definition of weapon.

Would you care to be more specific?

Neither a rifle nor a typical pocket knife is the kind of weapon prohibited in section 46.02 of the penal code and I don't see a conflicting definition in the alcoholic beverage code. Did I miss something that makes either a felony at Spec's?

Charles, I don't disagree with you. However, it is obviously going to vary state to state. Opening carrying a firearm in Alaska or Montana doesn't get you a 2nd look.
The unfortunate reality is, that in most of suburban and parts of rural Texas, taking a stroll with a long rifle will, at a minimum, get you stopped and investigated. As some (not all) LEOs have indicated - and I heard directly from one last weekend - it will likely get you arrested, with or without full knowledge of the law.

I understand that you're not prescribing to open carry demonstrations that scare the public and cause political setbacks, but I what do you see the answer is? We've already lost (in practicality) the right to carry long guns openly. Part of it is what we're willing to accept in terms of degradation of or rights for a cause of common safety, but what is an appropriate response if we'd like to retain those rights?

I'm not seeing where open carry in a movie theater is ever going to be a big hit now... :eek6

Yes it does and the fact that nobody has quoted any Texas law that would prohibit rifles and pocket knives at Double Daves, never mind making it a felony, says a lot.
