Restaurants don't qualify as 51% establishments. The food sales typically account for about 2/3 of a restaurant's total sales (on average). If you do see a 51% sign in a restaurant, it's likely an improper posting since TABC often sends both signs to a business with instructions on which one to post. The most reliable determination of a 51% location that I've found is to go directly to the TABC website.howdy wrote:I have had my CHL since 1997 and lived in the same house for the past 34 years. I know ALL the places in my area that are posted 30.06 and I just don't go there. We are lucky in Texas that very few places choose to post that stupid sign. They are smart enough to know that the sign only applies to law abiding people and not to criminals. There are exceptions, but most places that post have very visable signs. I find the 51% sign more problematic. My wife loves to go out to eat and we try all different types of restaurants all over Houston. I usually find the 51% sign up behind the bar in the restaurant AFTER we have been seated and ordered.
How THOROUGHLY does one have to seek out 30.06 at entrances?

I have a close friend that his wife is going through chemo, she is 24.
I chose to not worry about the legalities and NOT carry into a hospital. I didn't want to offend my friends family if someone recognized I was carrying in a place that seems sterile and that pushing my "right" was a point.
I will never be someone that carries above everything, because I think I can. I pick those situations that I deem necessary and make an educated guess...
If I get caught in a jackpot in a hospital, visiting a friend who's wife is having chemo and need my gun, well, maybe my day has come.
Pick your battles.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I go to the hospital with my pregnant wife to support her during a complicated pregnancy, and the hospital doesn't have the 30.06 signs anywhere I have ever entered. I am not pushing the right. Rather, I choose to carry at all times, and take it off only, when I have to. I just want to make sure I am not breaking any laws.jmain wrote:I have a close friend that his wife is going through chemo, she is 24.

It (the place) is either correctly posted or it isn't. After that, it is your decision whether to carry or not.

My point is, Pick your battles. Just because you can carry , doesn't mean it makes it right. Everyone's level of tolerance (chl holders) Is different. Do what you are comfortable with, within the law. :)

Just curious, why do you think anyone would "recognize" that you are carrying?jmain wrote:Thanks for the kind words.ATDM wrote:Sorry to hear about your friend. I discussed this in a prior post too as a hospital that I go to frequently has a legit 30-06 sign at the main entrance ( which I never use ) but no signs at any of the other entrances, which I do use. But if you use another entrance they have the "no smoking" signs but not the 30-06. So I know that I can't carry there but you would think that if they can put up the no smoking signs at each entrance they could put up the 30-06 too. I think I am going to invent my own sign and perhaps call it a 06-30, post it at my office and have it say CHL carry is welcome here.
Re: How THOROUGHLY does one have to seek out 30.06 at entran
I think his discussion about level of tolerance is about the CHL holder's tolerance to carry, rather than an observer's (who may or may not recognize him carrying) tolerance for the CHL holder.jmra wrote:Just curious, why do you think anyone would "recognize" that you are carrying?jmain wrote:

I respect all signs even the silly gun buster with the gun in a circle with a red line thru it
If my gun is not welcom then they don't want or need my busness plenty of others deserve it
The valid signs at Time warner made me change my web provider

A similar situation used to be Grapevine Mills Mall (I say used to be because I haven't been back in several years). They used to have a 30.06 sign posted inside the door to the left facing into the mall. Unless you were searching for it, you would not see it until you were leaving. I do not know if its still that way but IMHO it should not be enforcable unless visible from EACH ENTRANCE. But then, that just me.

Obviously, it is extremely unlikely that you'd get spotted, but flukes do happen, not to mention that I wouldn't want to break the law by carrying in places, where it's prohibited.jmra wrote:Just curious, why do you think anyone would "recognize" that you are carrying?
I disagree with the sentiment that I need to be mindful of people's feelings and opinions about CHL, when I carry. I am exercising my right, and I am prepared to defend my family and myself (in certain circumstances — others). They won't know that I am carrying. If they do, then I am not concealing it. And if they don't know it, it won't bother them. I am not going to be rubbing the nose of my anti-gun friends in the fact that I carry, but I AM going to carry it AT ALL TIMES AND IN ALL PLACES, whenever and wherever it's legal. I am not going to create "carry" days and "no carry" days on my calendar.
I disagree with the notion that I need to carry only when I expect something to happen. I am not going to ponder and consider others' opinion about CHL before walking out of my house with the gun. This is not what it's all about. I don't stop believing in my God, if someone is against my beliefs. I don't force them on anyone, but I continue to believe. I will not force my opinions about the 2nd Amendment on anyone, but I will continue to carry... ALWAYS. People's level of tolerance toward guns is not going to factor into my decision to carry or not to carry at all. Just like people tolerance toward my faith is not going to affect my faith.
I don't even fully understand, how my concealed carry would affect people with anti-gun sentiments, and why I need to worry about that at all.
That's just my $0.02...

ICU, young girl going through hell, lots of friends family there to support = a lot of hugs.Just curious, why do you think anyone would "recognize" that you are carrying?

If I have to go on a treasure hunt to find the 30.06 sign, then it is hardly "displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public."

When I initially go to a new business, hospital, restaurant, I ALWAYS use the main entrance.
Why?
If they're 30.06 posted, I'll most likely find it, if it exists.
After that, if there are other entrances that aren't posted, it won't matter as I've done my due diligence.
And yes, you can argue that I shouldn't have to go out of my way to find out what should be easily displayed, but it's in my interest to do so...

That's a reasonable way of doing things. However, I have been to the hospital with my wife at least two dozen times, and I can't figure out, where their main entrance is for sure. There are places that look like they might be main entrances, but I can't be sure... None of them had the sign so far...Abraham wrote:When I initially go to a new business, hospital, restaurant, I ALWAYS use the main entrance.
