GG clerk draws his Ruger LCR on robber, then has no plan!

In Mobile, Alabama a convenience store clerk had been robbed once and wanted to be prepared for the next time.

He buys a Ruger LCR (Lightweight Compact Revolver) and has it handy when another robber appeared in his store.

The GG drew the LCR, pointed it at the robber, then the GG had no plan at all in his mind as to what he should do next.
"I don't want to shoot anybody".

Observations on this incident: It's great that the GG bought a gun. It's great that he drew it on the BG.
But he really needs to realize that he MAY have to shoot somebody. Simply DISPLAYING a gun is not always enough
to get the threat to turn tail. I'm glad the GG is OK, but this could have gone terribly wrong.

The GG clerk appears to be a foreign man who may be averse to the concept of justifiable self defense due to some
shortcoming in his previous country's thought processes.

Curious: What should have happened here? The clerk pulled, the robber fled. I'd say the display was a success.
The robber fled without any money or property once the gun was pulled. Outside of the clerk admitting that he didn't know what to do next, what would have been a better course of action? I'd call it quite a success.

He did pull on someone else who was armed, but we don't get to what that other gun was doing, where it was pointing, etc.

If the recommendation is "have a plan" - I get it. If the clerk didn't know how to fire the gun, I get it... If it's something else, I don't get it. I'm not going to shoot to protect someone else's cash register while I'm getting paid <$12/hr...

Yes, things happened to go the GG's way on this one.

What is disturbing is that if the BG had been more aggressive the clerk may have been
found face down while holding onto his LCR with 5 unfired rounds in it.

Owning a weapon, but lacking awareness of a defensive plan, is not a good thing.

Yea.. got it.. pulling can definitely escalate if you aren't going to use it.

I've never been a clerk, but if I was, I just can't see protecting my employer's property with my life.

One night, a guy walked in, suspiciously looked around, and the approached my uncle at the counter. He then asked, "what would you do if someone robbed you?". My uncle responded with, "I'd shoot them with this gun I have here" and put his hand down under the counter. The guy then said, "you can't have a gun in here, the store doesn't allow it". To which my uncle replied, "they can fire me.". The guy, satisfied that his original plan was going to be hazardous to his health, turned and walked out of the store. My uncle drew a big sigh of relief. You see, he didn't have a gun, he had nothing. But just the idea of a person being able to defend himself deterred this BG from going through with a crime.

I have pulled my weapon and aimed it at a BG and not fired it. The BG looked at the weapon, looked me in the eyes and promptly turned around and fled.

Mission accomplished. Looks like this worked out for the GG. Am I overlooking a detail in this article?

This was back in the 70's I believe.

He always has an ace in the hole now....and 15 aces that automatically replace each other once the previous one is used....

I am willing to bet you were resolved to fire should it come to that. It sounds like the GG clerk was not.

Worked out ok for the GG. Best thing he can do now is find a job somewhere else. Every BG in the hood knows he has a gun and that he will hesitate to use it. Next time BG comes in shooting and leaves with cash and a never fired ruger.
