Teen son of HPD officer shoots and kills home invader

18-year old home alone in the middle of the afternoon - hears something, arms himself, and kills one of two home invaders.

Now Texas will only have to pay for housing one of these punks. Good shooting, kid!
Local 2 spoke with his father, who said he was proud of his 18-year-old son.

"Two unknown suspects entered our home without, you know, permission and my son, trying to defend his home and himself, he discharged my firearm, striking one of the suspects and one suspect fled," said HPD Officer K. Patmon.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Good job defending himself. I know his parents are greatly relieved. I hope he will be ok dealing with the after effects.
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

Poor kid.
It's a shame his hand was forced so far at such a young age.
Glad he's ok.
Good job, boy!

This 18 year old man did nothing less than what we expect from many "teenage" soldiers serving in our military.
I would gladly share a foxhole with this brave individual.

Awesome American. He will be a good Airman.

One criminal we all don't have to deal with anymore. Hopefully the second one will be shot and killed before a real American gets inured or murdered.

While I am concerned for the young man having to go through this at his relatively young age, It appears to me that he should be ready to have his own firearm if he so desires.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

Some of us were in the military at that age. I'm more concerned about the emotional impact of having his home invaded, regardless of the outcome. Many people no longer feel safe in their own home after its sanctity is violated like that.

And some of us just set up better fields of fire and put range cards at every vantage point.

Sometimes you cant avoid being a victim.. but you don't have to feel like one..

Both my daughter and my wife are trained in the use of the firearms in our house and know how to get to them if needed. They both understand the rules of engagement involving deadly force.

I can't say what they'd do when the real thing happens but we have trained enough I believe the training would take over and they would handle it just fine.

This young man will obviosly have a lot to deal with but it sounds like he was prepared and reacted well.
