51% sign at Hotel Indigo downtown Dallas

Post by Sparky3131 »

Went to check in at Hotel Indigo downtown Dallas and noticed on my way out to get my bags that it was posted 51% on the Main Street entrance. I know there is a bar in the lobby, but would the whole hotel be illegal to carry? I switched hotels to be sure I wouldn't cause a problem, just wanted to see what everyone else thought .

Did you tell them why you switched?

Did they provide you paperwork when you made the reservation. I believe it's the law now.

No I didn't receive anything like that. I did tell them why I was canceling and the lady at the front desk could have really cared less. No big deal, I just moved to a better place uptown instead of staying downtown. II usually assume that for a 51% sign it covers the whole premises.

File a report with TABC, they do not look kindly on improperly posted signage.

To answer your question, no the entire hotel would not be 51%, just the bar area, and that may or may not be off limits at all.
When I check the TABC site, it comes up with :
License #: MB622116
Trade Name: HOTEL INDIGO DALLAS
Owner: BIJOY BAR LLC
1933 MAIN STREET
DALLAS , TX 752015294
Orig. Issue Date: 3/14/2006
Status: Current Exp. Date: 3/13/2015
Location Phone No.: 214 741-7700
Subordinates: CB,LB,PE
Related To: Gun Sign: BLUE

So therefore it should not be 51% at all.

As others have said, I would notify TABC.

That is only for 30.06 posting. Don't belive it applies to the 51% status.

While I am glad it was a non-issue this time (with the wrong sign posted), you cannot assume that a 51% sign only applies to the bar area. It really can apply to the whole hotel. You need to check the license and see what it says. Be very careful when the license is in the name of a contractor since it is then much more likely to apply to the whole building.
