Houston area
I don't know the Houston area, but always see chl shootings and robberies posted here. Is there anywhere safe to live out there or within a reasonable commute?
Re: Houston area
well, thats a tough question, as crime can, and does, happen everywhere
I live in Clear Lake Area, and while we do not have a high crime rate (or at least high crime on the news or in the paper), we have had a couple of issues over the past couple years.
When I watch the news or hear of murders in the Houston area, I seem to feel it is Southwest or Northwest Houston that I see more than Southeast Houston.
So if you are looking to move to the area, and while you haven't stated where you would be commuting to, I would think:
Clear Lake, League City, Webster, Friendswood, Pearland. But as I have said, that does not mean crime does not happen in those areas, but just doesn't seem to be as prevalent.
Good Luck in your search

Okay, I "modified" Friendswood, but I'm obviously bias. We also have very little crime and PSC is 4 miles from my home.

Re: Houston area
The map looks like the area of Tidwell road and 69? I imagine since they house community supervision and other state offices in the building it would be in a rougher area.

I believe if you follow the "4 stupid" rule, no matter where you live, you'll be just fine. I live in Katy in west Houston. We do just fine out here.

That will keep you from finding trouble. It does nothing to keep trouble from finding you, however.howdy wrote:I believe if you follow the "4 stupid" rule, no matter where you live, you'll be just fine.
The 4s rule is very good advice, but sometimes the "it can't happen here" mentality breeds complacency.
The liklihood of someone breaking down my front door in a home invasion in this neighborhood are incredibly slim. I still have a gun close by anyway...just in case trouble goes for a walk and finds my front door.

I live in a quiet neighborhood in Richmond, near Sugar Land. We have some good areas out this way in Fort Bend county along with a few not so good. Southwest Houston proper is a high crime area.
Richmond area, South Katy, Fulshear, Sugar Land, Needville and many areas of Fort Bend county are not bad.

Tidwell and 69 - I would suggest living in the Woodlands or Kingwood and commute if I had to work there.texanjoker wrote:The map looks like the area of Tidwell road and 69? I imagine since they house community supervision and other state offices in the building it would be in a rougher area.
I'm also partial to the Friendswood/Clear Lake area, but that's quite a drive to Tidwell and 69 (about an hour in traffic).
Re: Houston area
Oh sorry I missed the Tidwell/69 (or 59 as it has been known here, I don't know if I can get used to calling it 69) reference.
In that case, I would say check Kingwood, Atascosita, Porter, New Caney area. There's also Dayton-Liberty area if you want more rural and don't mind driving a little further.
There are also areas inside the loop that are good or are going through revitalization right now if you want to live closer. I don't know as much to really recommend a place but there are several.

I could answer that but some people would accuse me of profiling, so the best thing is to look at crime statistics broken down by location and draw your own conclusions.texanjoker wrote:I don't know the Houston area, but always see chl shootings and robberies posted here. Re: Houston area
In the Houston area, you will find 2 constants that are inescapable: crime and traffic.
I don't believe in the "safe neighborhood" idea. Crime isn't limited to bad neighborhoods for the same reason you don't go shopping in vacant lot. You go to a shopping center because that's where the stuff to buy is generally located. Criminals go into good neighborhoods for the same reason - that's where the stuff is.
Anywhere you go in the Houston area will involve a question about traffic. It will dictate where you go and when. Even living outside the city-proper will require consideration of traffic.

I like that. We'll see about it. Talking with the other 1/2 about a job there.
Re: Houston area
I have family in The Woodlands. It's very nice and I have not heard of very much crime in that area.
