I admit I had reservations about using that link because of the perceived bias, but it had all the relevant links embedded in it.

Sounds like he was determined to cause an encounter. The problem with stand-offs is the longer they go the more chance the person will make a move that is possibly misconstrued as hostile and you will get shot, armed or not.

I am a little closer geographically to he story. From what I have read on other sites and in local news reports. It was simple a DD....he threw her clothes on the lawn. He was distraught. Instead of bringing in two officers and knocking on the door with two more as back up they went in all Rambo-Ed up. The woman said he might have a gun in the house, but that is not illegal here in VA.

It is not illegal to tell an officer without a warrant to go away. Clothes on the lawn are not illegal (we don't execute for littering). It is not illegal to not want to talk with the police. It is illegal to shoot someone who have not proven to be a threat to anyone. Fairfax is known for escalating situations by being stupid. It should not be up to the citizen to diffuse the situation. This is known in VA as a case where the sitatuion could have been diffused by sending in officer friendly, but because they sent in officer amped up it went sour fast.


It is sad the world we live in. I understand sometimes lethal force is needed, but we are far too quick to use it.

Nope, if he had come out and met with law enforcement then there would not have been a standoff. Bottom line, the cops over did it, but presenting yourself to them and addressing accusations or supposed wrong-doings in an adult manner will have a far better outcome than refusing to come out and barricading yourself in your place and acting like you are wanting a standoff.

That is a better article. It stated

Officers had been called to the scene by Geer’s girlfriend, who police said had reported that he was armed.

According to the article, the father said he was allegedly told a gun was found near him a "couple of steps" on the stairs so their must have been some truth to the callers statement that he was armed. More then likely patrol officers responded like every other call of this type. The subject then barricaded himself while armed causing the swat call out which is normal procedure for an armed barricaded subject. Subject was behind a screen door so visibility is limited. It would also be normal for a k9 unit to be on scene and a helo if they had one so no story there. The boss said they will do an investigation and it takes time. Old lady leaving with kids, could be another case of suicide by cop. Policestateusa? gotta love it
