NEW TEXAS RESIDENT - OCT APPLICATION

Post by sargeny1 »

HI ALL...I am newly arrived (AUG 2013) in TEXAS - KYLE- just south of AUSTIN - AND glad to be here..!!! Am a Retired NYC Police SGT - 30yrs - and have joined my brothers who moved to TEXAS YEARS AGO...we are once again all together 3 of us here in TEXAS. :patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot:
Took class on Sept. 27th..completed online app next day and mailed paperwork registered, return receipt ....recd by DPS on Oct 4th..TODAY, this AM shows "background under review" & print pending....six weeks total...not to bad...ALSO..am a veteran and cost was just $27 total..!!! Compared to NYC this was a BREEZE....You would NOT believe the hoops you jump thru to get a "Permit" in NYC....they will only give you a permit to keep handgun on your ..PREMISES.." !!!!! FORGET a concealed carry permit....AND the cost is $340..!!!!! every 3 years..!!!! as A RETIRED p.o., MY CONCEALED CARRY WAS FREE...it takes 6 to 8 months to obtain the "premises permit"...then you receive a "purchase Auth.." good for 30 days...to buy a handgun...which you must take to the License Div at 1 police plaza NYC and they add it to your license...each time you wish to buy a handgun, you must apply for a Purchase Auth...and it takes 6 to 8 weeks for approval...and you can only apply for one purchase auth. every 3 months..!!!! And once you own more that 8 handguns, you MUST buy a SAFE to store them...!!! You must submit a bill of sale and photos showing the safe open and closed..!!! OR..you will NOT get that purch auth. for that 8th handgun..... AND there is another whole set of regulations and permits AND another agency for "Long Guns.."..!!!!! be thankful here in texas one does not have to put up with such nonsense.....

Welcome to the forum and Texas. It's funny that I never hear of anybody working their whole career in Texas and retiring in New York.

Welcome to Texas, and the forum. You've managed to figure out how to imbed the smileys on your first post, and yet I still haven't figured it out.

You rock.
