Last time I was in Bass Pro (in Katy) I saw the sign that says all guns and fishing equipment entering the store had to be declared. So I walked up to the greeter, showed him my CHL, and asked if he needed to see my carry piece. He said no, that it didn't apply to CHL carriers, THEN HE THANKED ME FOR CARRYING!

That was cool.

I took the CHL class recently at the Bass Pro in Grapevine. From my experience there, they were very friendly to the people taking the class. We were there a couple of hours before the store opened. Still had to lock our guns since we were going to the range. The guy teaching the class was carrying his concealed piece the entire time. The other teacher was a cop, so he had his piece displayed prominently on his hip where it belongs.

Yea no issues at Bass Pro for me. Nice place. The only thing I dont like when using the range at Bass Pro is how they check your weapon right at front in the middle of the turnstyles where all customers are going in. When I went to the Grapevine Bass Pro this is how they checked and locked the guns. Plus the employee (while very nice and friendly) was talking to others as they went by and wasnt paying close attention (in my humble opinion) to my handguns. Just didnt give me a good feeling.

They really need an entrance on the side where the range is.

We came outside and some VERY bad weather was hitting and tornados were in the area. My Top and I saw a tornado comming across the parking lot on the other side of the freeway and double timed it back toward the front door of Bass Pro for cover. The manager would not let any of us standing there getting hit by hail in the store. He said it was company policy during times of an emergency to CLEAR the store. One women had been hit hard in the head by a piece of hail and was bleeding. We were forced to find other shelter NOW. We all ran around the corner and the manager from the movie theater next door was waving for us to come in. So we did just as that big twister hit a few hundred feet from us. That was very bad scene and I hope to never be that close again. And for Bass Pro? I called there headquaters and filed a complaint. Still nothing to this day.
I'm confused about a couple of the details in your story.

You say you "ran around the corner" from the entrance of Bass Pro to the movie theater (I presume you're referring to the movie theater at Grapevine Mills mall since there is not another one near Bass Pro). However, Grapevine Mills Mall and Bass Pro are across a very busy 4 lane street from each other. That would be a LONG run and you certainly couldn't just "run around the corner" and get from Bass Pro to the movie theater. Bass Pro and the movie theater are probably close to a mile away from each other, since the theater is almost on the opposite side of GMM from Bass Pro. There are many, many buildings between Bass Pro and the movie theater that could provide shelter from a storm. What made you decide to pass those up as you were making this one mile run with a tornado on your trail??

I also don't recall any tornadoes hitting the Grapevine Mills Mall or Bass Pro in the last couple of years...or ever for that matter (I used to live right near there and drove by it just about every single day between 2000 and 2006).

The details of your story don't really add up.

By the way, I inquired about this very subject one time and received an email from the manager at Bass Pro saying that CHL holders were welcome in their store. The only guns that they check and lock are those brought in for service or for those being carried to the range in a bag or case (they do NOT expect or want CHL holders to turn over their concealed handguns). I'll see if I can find the email.

I wouldn't say that...

I believe OpEdge was talking about never shopping at any Bass Pro in general, but the story was probably about the Bass Pro in Nashville specifically. Then the Opryland hotel part makes sense. A tornado hit downtown Nashville in April '98. ;-)

Ahhh...he said Opryland, mall and Bass Pro and I automatically thought he was talking about Grapevine. My apologies to OpEdge.

Well, there's an Opryland close by to Bass Pro Shop but it didn't open until 2004

True...and they actually changed the name of it as well. It's now the Gaylord Texan. Nice place.

I still think of it as Opryland though because that's what it was originally going to be called...which is why I was confused.
