CHL in Federal Properties??

Post by zigzag »

Ok is it off limits to CHL holders like Post Offices, National Parks, Immigration office, SSS? I did not see a 30 06 sign on our local Post Office. Can someone clarify ? Or its definitely off limits?

Federally operated buildings are still off-limits to us. (And didn't you know that people are never attacked there?) ;-)

if you're talking just the Post Office. I'd go to a WalMart or Kroger's with a PO in it.
or, if you're talking about a Federal Prison (easy one), it's a no.
it kinda depends, and I don't have any earthly idea how these cats pull up the TPC so quickly, so I can't quote ya nuthin' good.
sorry, I know that's of little use, but somebody else will post the good stuff.

Here's the best lawyerly explanation I've ever seen when it comes to the Post Office issue:

http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/modules. ... age&pid=96

Bottom line: 18 USC 930, which generally bans firearms in federal buildings, does not apply to the Post Office. Instead, they have their own published Rule (39 CFR 232.1) against firearms. The biggest difference is that being found in violation of 18 USC 930 is a felony, but the maximum penalty for violating 39 CFR 232.1 is a $50 fine, 30 days in jail, or both.

Easy: just save the HTML version to your desktop, then double click to open in a new browser window.

Yep i mailed some today and waiting in line i saw in their bulletin board a notice that shows a handgun and circled with red and a slash. No .30 06 notice in main entrance.
SO in respect i would nt bring one inside. The place was packed full as people lining up for passport application.

No 30.06 sign only means that you can't & won't be prosecuted under TX law.

The feds have their own laws and regulations that apply to post offices and other federal buildings. I don't pretend to know what they are. My understanding is that carrying is generally banned in federal buildings, so I don't do it.

I wonder if a favorable SCOTUS ruling in the Parker case would force the feds tro change some of their rules. I'm thinking not only buildings, but national parks and other misc. pieces of federal LAND. If a ban has to pass "strict scrutiny", it's an uphill battle.

But don't let me hijack this thread now!

Go to the USPS website, and in search, enter poster #158. That will show you a copy of the poster they are speaking of.

You can be sure it doesn't include any of your purposes, unless you are an LEO or Peace Officer of some sort.
