Texas Risk Pool Extended

Post by sjfcontrol »

Nothing to do with firearms, so put me on vacation if you must.

But I just got this email from my financial advisor, and thought those on the risk pool in Texas would be interested…
Texans’ health policies extended for 3 months

AUSTIN — Insurance Commissioner Julia Rathgeber on Friday extended for three months the health policies of nearly 23,000 Texans with chronic conditions.

Their coverage under a state-run high-risk pool was supposed to end Jan. 1. She ordered that it run through March 31.

Rathgeber said an extension is needed because recent problems with the launch of HealthCare.gov have slowed what was expected to be pool members’ smooth transition to policies sold in the federally run health insurance marketplace for Texas.

Under the Affordable Care Act, people can’t be denied coverage or charged more because of a pre-existing condition. Under the 15-year-old Texas Health Insurance Pool, enrollees paid twice the average rates insurers charge in the commercial market. The rest of the cost of their coverage was made up using money raised from a state fee on insurers.
I now have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to do the the "new" insurance I'm supposed to pay for by Dec 15th (at almost twice the rate of the risk pool.)

Does Julia Rathgeber's executive order stop people from switching over?
