Be thankful for what we have

Post by texanjoker »

As Thanksgiving approaches we need to remember to be thankful for what we have. This week has been cold. For the homeless that I see nightly it has been rough. Last night I encountered a homeless guy (not unusual) that was trying to find a warm place. I would guess he has some mental history and had been drinking to stay warm, but not to the point he needed to go to jail and he didn't want that. Most drink till they pass out so they can make it through the night. I felt bad for the guy. He didn't even have a bed roll and barely a jacket. The shelters have hours of operation and it was too late to take him. I ended up giving him a ride (man my patrol car stunk for hours) to a place where he could get something to eat and be warm. I even gave him the last $ I had in my wallet. No bragging there, but he made me grateful for what I have. I thought about him as I went home. While I will be working Thanksgiving, at least I will go home to a warm house and a good meal. The homeless are out each night and I can't imagine being in their shoes. A simple switch in any of our brains can pop causing us to go that route. If I see him tonight I'll have a blanket for him.

Happy Thanksgiving to each of you. Hug your loved ones because you never know.

That was a very nice gesture. Thanks for doing that. :cheers2:

What a wonderful thing to do. I've been reading about many officer's and their good deeds lately. It is heartwarming. There are many who do good deeds that never get recognition for it. Just as in military life, our guys donate their time and services to help their communities around the world, but that's not newsworthy.

God bless you Texanjoker for your efforts on behalf of one who has no voice. And thank you for keeping us safe as well.

Our family is thankful for you!
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

You did good. Unfortunately the individuals you are trying to help do tend to be alcoholics and drug users and alcohol may make them feel warm but is a vasodilator and they are more likely to die from the cold. If we enable their alcohol purchase in any way we may actually be harming them. There are just so many of these lost souls out there that it is hard to fathom. Most though are lost forever.
