Son achieving new heights

My 13 year old son took his first glider lesson yesterday. I believe he has found a new way to spend my money. Looks like I will be spending my Saturdays at the airport instead of gun shows in the foreseeable future.
BTW, if you thought the idea of your child driving at the age of 16 was a little scary, the schedule my son is on has him taking his first solo flight on his 14th birthday. Maybe I should have posted this in the prayer request section.

Is he flying at Midlothian / TSA? I spent most of my time at Caddo Mills but now I'm at Midlothian off and on. Most of my time there now though is to complete annuals for friends. I havn't flown in years though and want to get back in to it. Just got to busy to stay current. I spent many weekends playing line boy so that I could earn time for instruction.

Tell him to keep it up and in just a few short hours, he'll be soloing. Just think of it this way, he'll solo quicker than the time he'll have to drive with an instructor in a car.

I took flying lessons from a man whose flying license was signed by Orville Wright. He was a retired insurance salesman, and gave flying lessons so he could ride around in airplanes that someone else was paying for. I asked him at one point how did he know when a student was ready to solo.

He said, "when I would let my granddaughter ride with you."

Very, very few pilots have trouble on their first solo. It's afterwards that most of the problems arise.

By the time he is ready to solo, he'll be ready to solo!

We had to add some weight and I sat on a lead shot seat pad and a parachute backrest just to get the CG correct. I was a skinny kid!!!

Earning a pilots license before a driving license demonstrates a maturity way beyond his years...I would be watchful for the young ladies who will be wanting to hang around him soon...

My Dad saw that in me when I had eyes on driving his '65 Corvette when I first got my DL (17)...He sold that sucker real quick when that epiphany hit him...

Yep, I'm getting jealous. I walk up to a plane and tell the pilot he has a really cool plane and he says thank you. One of my boys walk up and say the same thing and next thing you know they are flying patterns around the airport.
My son did that yesterday and got a ride in a Light Sport.

Finally stuffed enough bacon down my son to get him in the front seat of the glider. Flying every week now in anticipation of a solo flight on his 14th birthday in Feb. Mom is getting nervous.
