Well, if you read it wasn't necessarily leave for military service, but one was travel to a military base (reason not stated), and the other was for treatment of combat related medical injuries. So, depending on the actual reasons the city may have a legitimate beef with the absences.

That's why I put the "?". If you watch the video (that I couldn't link) they don't mention anything about the leave. I will try to link the video.

I have personally seen abuse before in this particular type of case. I am aware of an individual who was taking extra days before and after his reserve training and was declaring them part of his leave. He was actually not actively doing military functions on those days but was just hanging out on the base swimming, kicking back in the NCO club, etc. Had he taken the days as part of his allowed vacation there would have been no issue, but he falsified documents and declared they were for military duty. He lost his job and the dismissal withstood a legal battle.

but, if you read the article, the town didn't have a policy and is now trying to retroactively put one together and enforce it, that's illegal. And if the one has to travel a ways to get to his base what is wrong with take a day on each side to drive it? Besides the this new chief or whatever seems to be actively getting rid of military guys.

Plus, what if their flight is delayed or they get a flat? I pretty much always pad my travel dates so that nobody has to scramble to cover me if something happens.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

That's the way it should work. He committed fraud and it caught up with him. :hurry:

Not saying either side is right. Just lots of info we don't know. If the city is trying something illegal, then I hope they clean their clocks.
