Fort Worth Teen Shot in Head Dies

Post by WildBill »

Another sad case of "I didn't think it was loaded".

FORT WORTH (December 28, 2013) A 14-year-old Texas boy who was shot in the head by a man who told officers he didn’t realize the gun he was holding was loaded has died, police say.

The teenager was in critical condition after the shooting and later died, authorities said. The 24-year-old man pulled out the gun late Thursday at a home where a group of people gathered and then pulled the trigger once.

The shot struck the boy just above the eye. The unidentified man ran from the home, but later called police to report the shooting.

He told officers he didn’t know the gun was loaded. He was in custody Friday for questioning. Charges were pending.

The man and the teenager were acquaintances, police said. Neither lived at the home where the shooting occurred.

The Four Rules of Gun Safety don't seem a bit silly now, do they?

What kind of an idiot pulls the trigger on a gun he doesn't know is loaded or not, pointed at another human being?

Actually, what kind of idiot handles a gun without knowing whether or not it is loaded? I was taught that when you pick up a gun, or are handed one, you MUST check it to determine whether loaded or not, and still observe the rules in case you are wrong.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

What a flaming idiot. Too bad being stupid was fatal to somebody else and not the gun handler.

Again, young teenager + out late = trouble.
Article doesn't say how late, but why is a young kid hanging out with a 24 year old?

You left one off in my humble opinion. What kind of idiot leaves a loaded weapon accessible when they know there will be people in their home who may come across it?

I read this article to several teens yesterday....their responses as I read it

"why was there a finger on the trigger?"
"why was it pointed at a person?"
"why wasn't it pointed in a safe direction?"
"you always treat a gun like it's loaded!"

yep, they're safe! I felt like a good mom and aunt
