Boy Dies From Drinking Methamphetamine

SAN DIEGO, CA -- A Mexican high school student died from drinking highly concentrated liquid methamphetamine at a San Diego border crossing in an attempt to persuade inspectors that it was only apple juice, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday.

Cruz Marcelino Velazquez, 16, volunteered to take "a big sip" at the San Ysidro port of entry Nov. 18, the report said. He was then handcuffed and taken to a security office, where he began screaming in pain, said something about "the chemicals," and shouted, "My heart! My heart!" in Spanish, it added.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's report gives no indication that inspectors asked him to drink the liquid and doesn't say if they had an opportunity to stop him when he volunteered. Velazquez died hours later at a hospital from acute methamphetamine intoxication.

unfortunately this could have been a case of "plata or plumo" and the boy knew he'd die anyway if he backed out or didn't make it across with the drugs and couldn't afford to pay the cartel back. alot of these people don't have a choice and are forced into the drug circus and the saying plato or pluma simply means silver or lead. you get paid to do a job or you're dead.

haha thanks for the correction, it's amazing how one letter in spanish can change the whole word! i never could get the male/female tenses on alot of words i'll edit my post as well

This is probably the case. A lot of young people get lured or dragged into the industry as mules, and failure is really not an option. That kid probably knew that his options were severely limited.

Geeze, I can't imagine the agony......I'm surprised that he lasted long enough to make it to the hospital before dying.

I know that it was stupid and self-inflicted, but I still feel kind of sorry for the kid.

It could be that the kid didn't know what he was carrying.

Some guy gives him a bottle of stuff and pays him mucho $$$ to take it across the border.

Maybe they told him is was a special super secret blend of organic apple juice. Who knows?
