Post by Jeremae »

Clearly there are many CHL classes in the Houston area, but does anyone have recomendations for a class (weekend) in Highlands/Baytown?

I'd recommend making the drive out here to Texas City to take the class with Tom (posts as ElGato here). I took his class and was done in one day, we really learned alot and he also made it alot of fun to be there.

Another person from East Harris/Baytown.

Q: Know what a tornado in OK and a divorce in Baytown have in common?

A: Someone is about to lose their trailer.

David Alford in Baytown is located on Texas near N Galliard by the old bank, (the "Snake"). I have never taken a class from him though, but he seems to do a lot of CHL's around here. Or did anyway.

This may be a little late....
Yes, David is still going strong. Been there for over ten years. They have 3-4 classes a month on Saturdays. Special classes available. the website is handgunclasses.com. His numbers are C-832-514-9920 or 281-427-4557.

Baytown class

Post by calvinbr »

I do know now about the class in Baytown. For a bit of a drive and worth your time and money, go to Texas City and see Mr. Tom Estep and Tami. I did my class this past Sat and OH MY GOD what a class. This man has got his stuff together. Tom is the man for CHL. He is a (life teacher) not just a book teacher.

Thank you,

I think Merle Niemiec also teaches at the Bay Area Shooting Club.

I've never taken her class & can't comment either way.

I know my husband liked ElGato/Tom's class in Texas City.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

I have heard from several different sources that CHL classes are no longer being held in the old bank building, although I haven't driven by to check it out.

I did try the website given above and found it doesn't link to his site.

There should be two separate Saturday classes in July given by Frank and Merle Niemiec and held at the VFW hall in Baytown. Possibly also two classes in August. Since they both are teachers, once school starts they will revert to one Saturday class a month. Their class will be the least expensive you will find. There is an email link here:

I took my fourth class from them and my third class from David. Both classes were well presented.
