This is a small concealable handcuff key
TIHK has a patent pending handcuff key that essentially clips on to your clothing and can be used to escape unlawful detainment with standard Peerless-style handcuffs. The product is specifically intended for law enforcement, military, and security professionals that may be restrained with their own cuffs. - See more at: http://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/01/30/ri ... qVOhS.dpuf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But what about criminals? Well they have that covered with the following statement…
TIHK is to only be used to counter illegal detainment and in accordance with all local, state and federal laws by trained law enforcement, military and security professionals. Improper use by civilians is not endorsed or encouraged. Use of the product is at your own personal risk and discretion.
Yeah, that should fix it! "rlol"

In the movies they just use a bent paper clip. Doesn't that work?

Are handcuff keys very big.....I can't think they are, if you thought this was a problem why would you just not put one on a quick release. How does one get to the handcuff key on your shirt if you are handcuffed?

Anyway....unless it is a criminal that has handcuffed you (and is not taking you to the local jail) I don't think this would be helpful.

If a person is arrested illegally, I don't think trying to escape is not going to help them. Much better to sit tight, wait it out, try to stay calm. If you look like you are the one in control of your emotions in front of the judge and you have your attorney explain how things went down and how you did not put up a fight, but instead are lodging a complaint and whatever else. I have to think that would be much better than a BOLO going out for you.

Quick question, is it illegal to carry a handcuff key on you? I still have my cuffs and key from when I was a MP. I have carried my cuff key on my key-ring for almost 24 years now. I don't know why, I would never try to escape if put in cuffs by the police. Just wondering. :confused5

If you read the link, the manufacturer is advertising it for law enforcement -- LEOs that may be locked in their own cuffs by a BG. They show it clipped inside a rear belt loop so it can be remove with your hands behind your back. Not much longer than the belt-loop width.

It looks like an outdoor site to me, I may have missed it but it did not seem LEO specific. Still...I would think you would have to be pretty dexterous with your hands to get at it and then get it to your cuffs.....

Does this happen often to LEO's. Being cuffed by a bad guy?

I have never seen a police officer locked in his own hand cuffs.... I have seen an officer locked in the back seat of his patrol car though. :mrgreen: He asked me to let him out....................I told him to use his hand held radio and call for back up. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

I still have my Shore Patrol handcuffs, but they use a very different key, and after I lost mine over 40 years ago, I had to make one for them.

This is why almost all reputable handcuffs have secondary locks... and that concealable key advertised doesn't have the pointed end to disengage the secondary lock.

I bought mine from my First Sergeant as he was retiring. He bought them from a police supply store, so I assume they are the same ones LEOs still use. Although this was in 1987. They are Peerless stainless steel. I didn't like the crappy ones issued to us by the Air Force. lol. That's the only reason I got to keep them, had to turn in anything issued to us. Would love to have been able to keep my M-16! :biggrinjester:
