Re: Settlement with LAPD in Dorner case worth $4.2 million
I have not posted up my opinion of the settlement amount because it is not for me to decide what getting two bullets in the back is worth to someone else. It happens to me like that and I won't be near as easy on them as those two were. I would be in the 100 million range to settle. Come on. Those officers screwed up. REAL BAD!!! We aren't talking false arrest here. This isn't just a case of a cop smacking some home boy around. They blasted two innocent unarmed women. They are lucky the women let them off so easy!

I think that the LEO's should do jail time for at least deadly conduct and pay the 4.2, or even go as far as felony attempted murder. really don't care if anyone likes it or not but if any of us did the same we would be doing hard time for attempted capitol murder and get 25 to life.
KNOW YOUR TARGET period no lamer excuses oh he was a cop an he was skeered, hmm oh well find another line of work, mebbe a door greeter fer wal mart. No I do NOT have any sympathy, that is a word found in the dictionary. My command never gave an inch when I was in sandland and neither should we here at home!

That is just the civil settlement. The officers have a lot more ahead of them as this is a deadly force investigation. It could be anything up to termination and prosecution. I hope they can ID who fired first. The rest of the officers probably reacted to that gun shot.03Lightningrocks wrote:I have not posted up my opinion of the settlement amount because it is not for me to decide what getting two bullets in the back is worth to someone else. Not knowing everything that happened, it is hard to say what would be "justice" as far as the officers are concerned. It seems to me, at the very least, they all just showed they don't need to be doing police work. Unless they were reacting with malice for some reason, which who knows, I am not much in favor of prosecuting them criminally. Putting them in jail for a mistake(a horrible mistake) would serve no purpose other than revenge. If just they flipped out and over reacted, losing their career forever would probably suffice. I don't see them as a danger to society. As long as they never again carry a badge, ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY!texanjoker wrote:That is just the civil settlement. P.S. I would see it differently if one of those women had lost their lives. I would also have a different opinion if it comes out that they were mad and looking for some "payback" and got the wrong people.

Driving stupid is better than shooting stupid. There is no liberty anymore. If the reverse happened and two drunk police officers were driving without lights on and two idiots shot them, I'm sure that the civilian idiots will go to jail. How come the two officers don't go to jail?texanjoker wrote:I can only assume, that one fired and the rest fired hearing the gun fire. The news isn't reporting that they were allegedly driving at night w/o their lights on. Anybody that has patrolled in those weee hours know that news paper people drive idiotic. I have stopped so many I have lost count. Not saying that warrants getting shot, but the media isn't putting all the facts out there. I can see a hyped up officer firing at a dark truck at night with no lights on driving idiotic. There may have been verbal commands as well prior to the shooting that were not followed. Not saying I condone it but I can understand that. I will be curious to see the outcome for the officers once the case is investigated. Glad to see the city do right by the victims.

Police Chief Charlie Beck and Alex Bustamante, inspector general for the Los Angeles Police Commission, independently recommended that the shooting be ruled out of policy, commission President Steve Soboroff said. He did not provide further details.

1. so because one officer opened fire, it's OK for the rest to unload? They aren't expected to use their own judgment?
2. The news isn't reporting that they were "allegedly" driving at night without lights on? Maybe because, the officers said they saw the blue truck "creeping" along with its high beams and flashers on". Hardly the behavior a trained officer would expect of a would be assassin sneaking up on an intended victim.
3. I can see a hyped up officer firing at a dark truck at night w/no lights on driving idiotic? The Chief stated "there may have been similarities, but the truck was a different make, model and color, and it didn't have a ski rack mounted on it or oversized wheels and tires". Sounds like the "idiotic" behavior was on the part of the officers.
4. There may have been verbal commands that were not followed? Again, The Chief stated "one of the women threw a newspaper out the window and one of the officers mistook the sound of it hitting the pavement for a gunshot, and the officers immediately opened fire". They unloaded 103 rounds, 40 of which hit walls, window, and garages of nearby homes. It's amazing that either of the women survived at all.
The only thing I can agree with Joker on, is there were definitely some "hyped up" officers there.

Not going to discuss the incident other then pointing out the dept did their investigation as I stated they would and after seeing the facts found them in the wrong. I'll be curious to see if they are criminally charged as well. We could have the LA DA file or the fed's could jump in as well like they did after the Rodney King guys were acquitted.
