Can police pull you over with no probable cause?

I am willing to bet that most cops pull someone over because something about that person or the driving gave them reason to sniff around. I have trouble believing a cop is going to quit eating his or her donut to pull over a car because the color of the car is green instead of purple.

Real cops eat bagels .....One needs some sort of PC to make a stop. That could be a lighting or other equipment violations (best one for tweekers), expired registration, some moving violation, stolen car, could be a suspect vehicle, tint, ect. I prefer at least two points of PC when I make a stop. I've never lost a case over bogus PC and the 4th is there for a reason. I've seen leo's in court on weak pc taking the stand. Sure they probably will win but I say why not have a rock solid stop?

A good street cop knows how to find the PC. That is how good police work is done and criminals are taken to jail. IMO that is by far more valuable then bogus speed enforcement for revenue The key is to know when to cut people loose vs screwing with them.

Funny story. When I was silly enough to drive half way across the country to drag race my pick up truck, yeah a hot rod pick up, I would drive steady 90-100 MPH towing my trailer. I could let my pit guy/friend take a turn driving and without fail he would get busted doing 70. I blasted by a cop in Pennsylvania one day doing at least 95 MPH. We were going up and down big hills. Had to get up speed going down to make it up the next hill. My buddy laughed and says to me, "finally, you got caught instead of me". Sure enough the cop hits his lights, pulls out and here he comes. My buddy had been given so many tickets during the two years we made these crazy drives, he was excited like a kid at Christmas that I was finally getting one. Imagine his dismay when the cop pulled over the guy behind me instead?

Same here. It makes me money as a result sometimes if all occupants are arrested and no relative or friend can come get the vehicle.

I want officers to pull people over for suspiciousness. I trust their instincts. Wasn't it was the campus police that saved the girl that was kidnapped in California for years? I'd hope and pray an officer pulls over the car that has a tail light out because it could be someone's kid in the trunk.

But I can see why people of color feel targeted and I do believe it happens. But there are times that as a woman, I don't care what color you are, I'm still gonna lock my doors and keep an eye on you in the elevator. I don't care if you're a transvestite or cross-dresser, you still have more physical strength than I do, and will raise my awareness levels.

I am thinking the officer would then wait to see if the driver was in possession of canned iced tea. . You forgot, this officer is looking for two PC's.

That is actually not correct. Reasonable suspicion is all that is needed.

I will tell one on myself.

I was going East on highway XX and a car blew by me going West. I made a U-turn and punched it. He saw me make the turn and slowed down, so I was just a few car lengths behind him in five or ten seconds.

It was early morning with very little traffic and I did not turn my overheads on while checking the plate number. It came back OK so I just stayed about ten car lengths behind him. He slowed way down and I slowed way down. He pulled over on the shoulder for me to pass and I just stayed about ten car lengths behind him so he moved back into the lane. I followed him about ten miles without turning on my overheads and by this time he was so hinky he didn’t know what to do.

I figured he was “sweating bullets” by now and I had made my point. I made another U-turn and headed back east figuring this guy had learned a lesson without me even stopping him. I would like to have heard the names he called me.

That is actually not correct. Reasonable suspicion is all that is needed.

This supports my comment in another thread. The laws are so complicated even cops disagree on them. I think it was in a thread a comment was made about 30.06.
