The Primaries

Post by gemini »

Early voting. Check. Did redistricting change my representatives? Yes. Am I a happy
camper? No. I'm now in a district that is drawn so weirdly it defies description.

I have been absolutely hammered with political calls to my home phone.
Political junk mail by the bushel now fills my recycle bin.
I finally cast my Primary votes today, and was borderline molested by various
candidate supporters in the parking lot. If they hadn't been carrying political signs,
I would have assumed I was being attacked by over zealous, drug crazed, zombies.
I have been receiving 2 email alerts per day for "help" from my former State Sen.
(I do believe he is scared of losing his job). I want ALL of them scared.

Not really sure the intent of this post. Maybe just to find out if I'm alone in
this mess. :headscratch
Have a good weekend!

I voted absentee 2 weeks ago. Now I'm getting 8-10 phone messages and several flyers in the mail every day. Some days I get 2 or 3 items from the same candidate. I let my answering machine screen the calls and then delete them after hearing the first sentence. Not one "live" caller. All have been robo-calls and I'm sick of them. :banghead:

I hate spam and considered refusing to vote for candidates who spam me. I'm not sure if anyone is left. Can I write-in Donald Duck? At least he didn't support Straus as speaker in 2013,etc.

gemini,

We screen all our calls using an answering machine. It picks up after two rings. The pre-programmed outgoing message is a rather robtic sounding one (no cutesy personalized message from me) plus we don't hear it.

9 out of 10 times it'll be a bogus call and we simply go on about our business without interruption.

If it's a legitimate call, the caller will start to leave a message, which I can hear and I'll pick up if I care to speak to the caller...

You're not obligated, as I'm sure you know, to answer your phone simply because you're home.

It'll be over in five days and we, as good citizens, should remove all of the illegally posted signs on state road right-of-ways. It is our civic duty, Yes!

Yes Sir. We do the same. When it rings, we also get the caller ID on the TV screen (if watching). I'm just tired of
the whole thing. And, the 2 idiot candidates that wanted to "connect" me with a Town Hall Meeting via telephone .......grrrrr.
Thoses messages just tied up my line and storage space on the answering machine.
Donald Duck is sounding good.....

Too bad the political solicitations are not affected by signing up for the Do Not Call List.

I haven't answered my home phone in over two years. If anyone that I want to talk to calls me, they reach me on my smartphone.

If it wasn't for my 82 year old mother in law and 11 year old daughter, we wouldn't have one.

Nope, us either. I've got a Straight Talk and Mrs. Oldgringo has a triple minutes Tracfone. Most of our calls are to each other.

My kids, my nieces and nephews etc. NONE of them have land lines.
I am trying to get up the nerve/guts to drop my home line. I
guess I simply have it as some sort of security blanket? Like mojo84,
if someone really wants to talk, they call my cell.
You guys are right. Hard to justify paying for a land line.

The only real advantage of POTS these days is a better chance of working in a disaster than VOIP or a mobile phone.
I sincerely apologize to anybody I offended by suggesting the Second Amendment also applies to The People who don't work for the government.

It's kind of like giving up the old security blanket isn't it?
