Stuff for Sale Areas

I have bought and sold several items from the sale areas on this board.
Never a problem. The actual transactions, and the sold, or not interested
in selling at your offered price negotiations have always been prompt and
courteous by all parties.
Recently, I have noticed a couple of sellers offering items for sale, then
either not answering PM's or posted "I'll take it's". Or, not responding to
an offer to buy with either a "sold", or a "not interested at selling at your offered
price" or even a "this item is no longer for sale". Some type of communication.
If it's an auction type of sale, then post OBO. But, seller, make a decision.
I understand there can be circumstances where serious illness or a death etc
could cause a seller to delay responses. But, I imagine those situations to be
a rare occurance.
I hate to see the "non-response" sellers posting. I don't think that's good for the board.
The folks I've met on buys/sells have all been great people. Hate to see that change.

i have noticed that not only here but as a whole when it comes to buying/selling.....i'm guilty of not taking the time to be as thorough as possible every now and then but always do my best to answer and then update the ad as well to reduce repeat questions. but it seems that no matter how much information you include there are always people who....

1. ask questions that are clearly answered on the post.
2. offer you 1/4-to 1/2 of new cost for something in like new condition (low-ballers)
3. offer to pay you through a friend of a friend's brother who lives in china.
4. argue with you over how much a new item costs.
5. will agree with everything, make an appt. and then not show up without as much as a call.
6. show up with 1/4-1/2 of your asking price and then turn around and leave if you don't accept. wasting your gas/time.

if you would like to know what has changed in human behavior in the last few decades try and post something on CL and then grab some popcorn and coke.....

1. see that sometimes too. (need remedial reading comprehension course?)
2. like new condition is not new. a new car is "used" as soon as it leaves the lot. you can always say no to (lowballers), or accept.
3. cash only for me. buying or selling.
4. who cares? the seller sets the price. there's an AR on the board right now. i can buy it new for the same price. i'll buy new.
5. that's just rude. you should call them out in public, on this board, if that happens.
6. price should have been settled before any meet was set. i had it happen once. totally rude. (guy later emailed he wanted at the
initial agreed upon price. i refused. later sold at market hall gun show for $50 more)

I agree. CL seems to have helped change ALL the rules. (as in there are no rules )

I have never tried to sell anything on the forum, but I have purchased several guns, holsters and reloading supplies.

Every transaction has been excellent. Both a satisfied buyer and seller.

I can say that I have dealt only with long term forum members.

I nave purchased a couple of items with no problems. I live in Pasadena, but a seller on the forum up in the DFW area held a little .22 rifle for over a week until my son-in-law who lives up there could get the money to him. I have sent some stuff gratis (just small items) to members to help them out and there are folks here who would do the same for me I'm sure. I am waiting to hear from a member to whom I have sent a check, but I remain an optimist, assuming there are some extenuating circumstances. I don't think we need a feedback thread yet

I purchased a gun from AEA, who held it for me over a week until I could make the drive from Houston to McKinney. He refused my offer to send him money to hold it for me. We had a good lunch where I met his son, and we traded stories. He even threw in an ankle holster and then tried to sell me a S&W snubbie.

I bought another gun from a forum member in Dallas. He also refused my offer for payment until it was picked up and the transfer was complete.

Another forum member sent me a micro-cassette recorder for free. During one of the threads on dash cams and recording he PMed me and said he had a extra that he wasn't using and would send it if I gave him my address.

All and all a bunch of good people I have met here.

We have rules that require a seller to list a price. We do not allow 'auction type' listings here. I think the market section is a great place for members to offer things to other members. I'd really hate
to see it go away. And, until recently, I had no issues what-so-ever. ALL buys/sells have gone without
a hitch. I met a few folks face to face. Exchanged payments/items through the mail, all with no issues.
As posted above, I believe most others have had similar experiences.
I don't know if I'd term the recent events as abuse. But, I would term them as not a good way to do business.
I think that is what irks me. I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, and I also don't want to be
the catalyst for a section being removed, so my comments on this stop with this post.

I would hate to see the market section go. I have bought several items (holsters and a handgun) with out issues.

I have found everyone on the forum good to deal with. I do agree that if you have an issue it should be brought forward to the admins.

I have only sold 1 gun, bought 1 gun and given away a set of grips from this site but have had nothing but positive experiences in doing so. I have also met some great people by these sales.

It is sad that a few people do this so that we are wary of everyone.

I know this is not a democracy it is privately owned board, thank you Mr. Cotton! But put my vote for what it is worth in the please don't close down the marketplace column. I have purchased several items and sold several as well. To a person I have had great communication and everything took place as intended. I even sold a firearm to a member that had issues and asked me to hold the firearm for him and it was no problem. He insisted that he send me a check and I told him not to worry that I was in no hurry. Eventually we completed the deal and he even gave me 2 boxes of ammo in addition to the money for the sale. I was floored. All of my transactions have been great!

Let me clarify that aside for the periodic new person posting something before they have the level of posts to list, the section has ran very well and we have not had many previous complaints of abuse. It is also not currently being reviewed for closure due to the fact that the majority of members play by the rules.

HOWEVER, if we start seeing issues it could be. So, we require our members listing items to respect the buyer and respond to the requests appropriately. If these types of things become a problem changes may have to be made.

Let me say publicly that Market Forums are a Great Draw for me!
I have sold and bought several items, met great people, and have never had a bad experience.
I would go so far as to say that if I can find it here first, I will buy it with confidence, that can only be matched by a big box store.

The members on this forum are some of the most polite, honorable, generous people you will meet.

Or maybe it is just the high concentration of Texans...

So far all of my dealings on the marketplace part of this board have been just fine. I recently sold some .22 WRF to a member in Big Bend. Everything went as it should.

I just did a FTF to buy some .22 WMR with no problems. No problems until the boss finds out I bought more than I said I would I am still waiting on an email deal that I sent a check for. Have to wait and see how that turns out. With that said I'm still in favor of keeping the for sale areas open.
