Athorities raid Vet Clinic, vet didn't put down 4 YO dog

I saw a story on news this morning that said the Vet admitted he was using the dog AND that he also had 3 other dogs being used as blood donors that he had supposedly euthanized for the owners.

This is so sad. Apparently his clinic was not well run either. They said they removed 5 animals from his care and had to put one down that had been kept in the cage for at least 2 years.

For what it's worth, I talked to a friend of mine today that has been a client at this clinic for years. She told me that the media got the story completely backwards. Apparently the family that left the dog there literally just dropped him off and left him for about four months. The office tried to call them repeatedly and they never came to get him. When they finally got in touch with the family, they just asked that the dog be put to sleep, when in fact there was no reason to put him down.

My friend told me that one of her cats became very ill, and had to stay in the clinic for an extended period. This vet stayed up with her cat up until 3 o'clock in the morning. None of his clients ever have to go to the emergency clinic because he'll see anybody at any time, and his prices are very reasonable.

Anyway, I remember that this came up here on the forums, and I thought y'all might be interested in what I heard.

Is that true or conjecture? My understanding is that the vets (licensed) are responsible for the storage and inventory of controlled substances. If it's not done right, the license is at risk.

Neither truth or conjecture. My attempt at levity. The vet board probably had a surprise inspection after this made the news. It was noted that his controlled substances were not under control.

When one wants to find someone violating an ordinance, rule or requirement. Normally one is able to do that. In today's world it is hard to be perfect.

Usually with most professions, if someone dies, the government sometimes takes notice and begins investigations. Here it is unusual as it is because someone didn't die that they took interest.

Vets can use frozen plasma from any blood bank. And for the people who would rather believe paper we know they always get the correct info out

So I looked into the "pet blood bank" a bit. Apparently there are pets that are donors (per their owners) - so I imagine that some of those cases aren't unlike what we have here.
Apparently the real problem is having blood donating cats, as they appreciate the privilege a bit less than dogs and need to be sedated.
