Joe the Plumber comment
Does Joe the Plumber help the cause, regardless of the context of his letter and regardless of its truth or falsity?
I will venture to say that in my not so humble opinion his quoted, and not denied, comment here in his letter reminds me of the comments on our forum dealing with "in your face open carry rallies."

Of course we know that there is no such thing as an in your face liberal that pushes abortion, taxes, gay marriage, green, and the list goes on.

It's getting a lot of play in the left wing circuits and was it harsh? Probably. I have a hard time disagreeing with the sentiment though. Rights should not be curtailed based upon emotion.

I'd like to also point out that Darrel Scott, the father of a young lady killed in Columbine, agrees. His testimony is powerful and even more so in person.

He could have said the same thing in a much better way.

Read the entire letter. I have no problem at all with what he wrote. As always, liberals will take one comment, rip it out of the surrounding context, repeat it ad nauseam with their usual lies and insist that is what he meant. Instead of being cowed by their lies and insisting that Joe could have said it better, we should be loudly criticizing the left for taking him out of context, twisting his meaning and then insisting that their interpretation is the only correct one. It's past time to stand up to the bullies.

I consider this letter a well-deserved, well-written erudite-punch-in-the-mouth to any idiot that would try to use these tragic events as a platform from which to preach for more gun restrictions on law abiding citizens.
The letter clearly expresses understanding and sympathy with the father's grief but serves notice to others that would try to exploit these events that such an attempt would be both foolish and factually unsupported.
I'm tired of our side playing nice to our own detriment. I thought this letter was spot on.

There are no critical words for a grieving father. He can say whatever he wants and blame whoever he’d like – it’s okay by me. You can’t take a step in his shoes – at least I can’t.
But the words and images of Mr. Martinez blaming “the proliferation of guns”, lobbyists, politicians, etc.; will be exploited by gun-grab extremists as are all tragedies involving gun violence and the mentally ill by the anti-Second Amendment Left.
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

All I'm saying is he could have left that one statement out and his message would have been more effective. Very similar to open carry in your face tactics. It only diminishes the effectiveness of the message.

he simply responded in the same tone as the father of the young man.

He should shut up and stick to plumbing.

Many people have died defending our precious Constitution; abridging its rights in order to avoid more death dishonors their sacrifice.

I read the whole letter, and it didn't bother me at all. Given the uproar over that one sentence, and given 20/20 hindsight, I might rephrase that one sentence thusly:
becomes.....As harsh as this sounds – your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights.
In the midst of your pain - I ask you to remember that taking away my Constitutional rights will not bring your son back to life.

Joe the Plummer May not be as articulate and versed in linguistic skills as you are.mojo84 wrote:The Annoyed Man wrote:I read the whole letter, and it didn't bother me at all. Given the uproar over that one sentence, and given 20/20 hindsight, I might rephrase that one sentence thusly:
