New to CHL.......this off limits?

Post by ZOE511 »

Ok I am looking at getting a CHL. I was talking with a LEO about CHL laws. He admitted he was not that familiar.

Are these places off limits?

Churches? (Have to be posted now right?)
Hospitals
US Post Office
Police Depts
Buildings where a court is

I tried searching but wasnt doing it right I guess.

When you take the class, you will learn all of the off limit places. Until then, here are the laws restricting CHL carry;

Gotta read it all ;-)
(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply
if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.
Professional Sporting events don't need 30.06.

ok, another question then. As i read this below it sounds like the civilian possession of of OC/CS would be illegal. I know from various sources I consider reliable that it's not.

Pepper spray and similar devices intended for personal protection are legal in Texas. Anything you can buy over the counter will be legal.

A chemical dispensing device is essentially a tear gas dispenser for police or military use.

A zip gun is a homemade gun, typically a piece of plumbing pipe with a crude firing mechanism.

Ditto what Seamus wrote;

Here is the definition from 46.01 of a chemical dispensing device;
(14) "Chemical dispensing device" means a device,
other than a small chemical dispenser sold commercially for
personal protection, that is designed, made, or adapted for the
purpose of dispensing a substance capable of causing an adverse
psychological or physiological effect on a human being.

ZIP guns were usually made from an automobile radio antenna (the old extendable type), a nail and some rubber bands. Fired a .22 round. Ya gotta be from NY.........
