Re: I am a newly minted US Citizen!
I have been living continuously in US since September 1999 in US. That is some 15 yrs. In 2003 and the peak of recession I lost my job and I could not find another job in the same field (i.e. high paying job) and I had to restart my permanent resident application a year later.baldeagle wrote:Beiruty, care to share how long it took? Might open some eyes. I have a good friend who is from Trinidad. It took her 8 years to become a citizen. The hoops you have to go through are ridiculous, especially considering you can simply cross the border illegally and be accepted with open arms by idiots.
So my first application to get my green card took from September 1999 to March 2004, that is 4.5 years.
The second green card app started in Feb 2005 and I got it in November 2007 and that is 2.5 years. Almost 7 yrs later, I am a US Citizen.
It is long journey. Note when I immigrate to Canada in March 1994, I waited in my home country 2yrs to get permanent resident card and 3yrs later I became a subject of her "Majesty the Queen". I could not run fast enough to land in Lone Star State

Re: I am a newly minted US Citizen!
Thanks all for your warm feelings. I feel proud and privileged to join this great nation that allows all its Citizens to be the best they can be.
First, being free to express your thoughts is just something some do not appreciate. As tyrants are happy to muzzle you and let you roam like a living dead. This is why I like "Live free, or die".
Second, the right to be armed and able to protect yourself and those you love is an unalienated right. It is an honor and a noble cause to die for. I am at loss of words that there are many who are fighting against this right. In deed, those antis are brain washed starting in elementary schools. I would do not and do not let your kids being dumped down by the public schools. Raise them right, teach them to bethe best they can be, teach them to be free in mind, and teach them how to shoot

Re: I am a newly minted US Citizen!
Beiruty and bride:
It is a super happy occasion to become Americans after a long arduous bureaucratic journey.
Every day I thank God that I was born American and didn't have to live in another land.
My grandfather was a 22 year old lad with no prospects in Sicily who moved to Marseilles, France.
He found no work there since there were so many other immigrants.
He somehow scraped up enough money to take a ship to America. He was born in 1886 and the
ship that took him to the US was also an 1886 model. I've seen a picture of it on the Ellis Island
website.
He arrived at Ellis Island, NYC, on December 15, 1908. He may not have realized what a great thing
he did for his descendants!
Perhaps one of your children may become US President, Inshallah.
