I suppose many of them end up in the hands of those government employees.

If it's evidence, she wouldn't have it. It would still be in police custody.

Surrender it to local LEA.

Get a receipt with the serial number and you should be covered and done with the matter.

I'd just tell her to turn it in to the police. My hometowns department took a lot of stuff off peoples hands (legally) and destroyed what was not able to be sold at auction. As someone else suggested she could probably request it be destroyed but I'd have her talk with someone with more rank than the duty sergeant or whatever.

Find a local machine shop or welding shop.
Talk with the owner and tell them what you want.

I don't think she'll have any trouble finding someone willing to take a saw to it and cut it in pieces. Maybe remove the cylinder and just cut up the frame to make it easier. Then, she can decide what to do with the pieces. Bury them in the ground or at sea... Whatever gives her closure.

I can certainly understand the symbolism of what she wants to do.
I hope she finds the peace she deserves. That kind of loss must be devastating.

Trust me - I am not going to be a part of this, nor am I giving her advice. She asked the question and it just got me thinking - destroying a firearm is not something I have ever considered.

I can't believe this hasn't happened yet:

Now you got me thinking. If I had an unsafe firearm with no collector's value how would I destroy it. I guess I would find one of those buy-back programs [which I find offensive] and pawn it off on them. ;-)

I figured it just went unsaid because everybody knew it to be true.

A lot of over thinking going on here.

Seems like nothing a 10 minute and a sledge hammer couldn't take care of.

Make some FeO2. Seems like a good idea and easy enugh. But as stated not so much if a glock or stainless steel.
