Ive had hospital treatment 3 times in the past year. Among the invasive & nonsensical questions I have been asked are if I felt depressed, do I wear seat belts, and if I felt afraid at home.
The doctors and hospitals get some type of reward for collecting this info, and some of the nurses have became adamant that I answer. I explain that if they appreciate my being polite while declining to answer they should stop the questions at once.
I do not answer any obamacare questions. All should consider the potential consequences before doing so.

Yes, the questions you answer today could appear barely relevant now, yet be the grounds for banning firearm possession 10 years from now.Jim Beaux wrote:I do not answer any obamacare questions. All should consider the potential consequences before doing so.
I was talking to one guy I know from church. In the discussion, he mentioned he had a CHL. I had already known he had been clean and sober in AA a long time (something like 30 years), so I asked if that had held up his application at all. He answered that although he had brief inpatient treatment over 30 years ago, he declined to answer that on the application because he felt it wasn't the goobermint's darn business, plus who knows what that answer could do to him sometime down the road.

Questions that will end up in a database and are no ones business. Depression, Suicidal tendencies (no seat belts) delusions (being afraid without cause) would probably all be disqualifiers for owning a firearm in some States. Careful on those trick questions America, you may be targeted for firearms confiscation by the State. One Citizen at a time is much easier than trying to get them all at once.

I've said it before - this stuff already exists in the national scope for people with pilots licenses. And if you answer honestly, it probably applies to CHL too if people would accurately self-report.
As a pilot - exactly the same thing would have happened. The government would have yanked the license. It just takes one doctor writing "depressed" somewhere. Once. And to get that license back, you'll need to come out of pocket (thousands), find an accredited mental health specialist that the government will accept an opinion from, go through extensive testing, and pay that doctor to write a somewhat-risky opinion that you're no longer suffering from depression. It's been like this for decades - and there is a big movement to change it with the "hobby" pilot types, but it's a mess.
The difference here is HOW the government got the information. That's the scary thing...
I'm 100% for some form of gun purchase checks associated with mental health and capacity. I realize that some of you are currently looking for the noose at this point. But before you string me up, I don't actively support actually doing it because it'd be impossible for the government to get it right. Something like 70% of the population will suffer from some form of depression in their lifetimes.... I can't see a scenario where the government gets it right. I'm afraid it is an issue that there is enough support for - and it makes sense - that it's going to get rammed through in some messed up manner some day.... And at that point, you'd better have deep pockets if you want to own firearms and visit the doctor.
