The grass is always greener... I spent just over 10 years in southern Orange County, and I will never live in Kalifornia again. (Interesting that I added the Thurber quotation to my tag line this morning, isn't it?)

But back on topic:
Looking back on it, as I came up to the door (ain't peepholes great!) ...
Somebody needs to invent a peephole periscope, something that will let you look out of that little potential bullet funnel while standing well off to the side of the door. Ideally, at least a piece of it stays mounted over the peephole so somebody on the outside can't tell whether you are looking through the "door periscope" or not.

'Course, a CCTV system would solve the problem, but it would cost a lot more and wouldn't make for nearly as enthusiastic an infomercial. For $29.95 you could throw in one of those little doorstop aubible alarm thingies.

Stevie-d, you're welcome to use this idea to audition for American Inventor.

Yep, my grandmother in Dallas has one of those "wide angle" peepholes set in her door...You don't have to get right up on it to look through it either...

I had a friend of mine who I went to high school with (many years ago), who's mother was seriously wounded, and his grandmother shot and killed through the door a few blocks down from where we live now...

All for the NSX he was driving parked in the driveway one morning...The kid who did this just wanted a ride to school a mile or so away...Ya'll can probably find the story in the archives somewhere with the keywords Clear Brook High School...And this was about 8 years ago I believe...

Its just been kinda weird in this nieghborhood, off and on since I can remember...

Amen to that....I love Texas and all, but my wife and I feel as though this city is falling apart. We recently visited San Diego and if we had the money, we would have been there last week. Only problem is that there are VERY limited carry laws and I do mean VERY limited.

I do find it a little humorous that they asked to check your meter but yet asked to come inside. Morons
San Diego is great but good luck carrying in that state. It is almost next to impossible to get a handgun permit. You are better off finding a spot in Texas. Cali also has state taxes.

Cameras cost less than $100, and they can transmit to your TV or computer.

If I didn't have a window at a right angle to my front door, I would have a TV camera.

I'd happily invite you guys out into the hill country if you're looking for a safer place to live. One of the big reasons I'm leaving SA for good in a few weeks.

Well, yeah, you live there!!

what I do, is I have this window in the front door, it's bullet proof glass ya know, and when I walk up to the door, I carry a mop, and I do a tactical crouch so it looks like person walking up, and then I do a Hondo roll out the door, with my M4 with the pump shotgun mount (instead of the grenade launcher), covering all angles......

of course, that's what everyone does, right? :smilelol5:
srsly, I just don't answer the door.

This is what I have. It's wonderful. Between this and the 6" lag bolts run thru the doorjamb/doorframe/cripple, my front door is covered, lol...

I have a gas meter and a water meter and an electric meter. None of them are in the house. No one EVER knocks on the door to ask permission to read the meters.

I think you should have snapped a little sooner and had the wife unit call police.

Glad no one got hurt and no damage was done. That was a close one....

Try a Southern Security System...

Post by jbenat »

Stevie; Looks like you handled the situation ok. Good job!
But what about when you are away from home? Maybe you should consider getting one of these southern security systems just in case.

Security System

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM IN THE SOUTH

1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.

2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine.

3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.

4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

"Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim, I went for more ammunition.
Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls - they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside.

My sister lives near Alvin, I live near Trinity, I rarely go see my sister, I just hate it when I can see the air over Houston before I get to Conroe.
