WalMart question when buying ammo

I actually buckled yesterday evening, and bought 3 boxes of the white stuff at $13.79 (a box) for 180 gr. FMJ...

To me that was not much of a deal, but I had to get a few boxes for a deal tonight...

I had to wait for a while till I saw an employee who might be able to wake up the sporting goods person and get them on station...

Anyway, the guy finally showed up, fairly personable, friendly...Asked me what I wanted, and I showed him...He said what caliber, "9mm?", I said no .40...Oh... I have a Sigma...I :roll: 'ed, and got my 3 boxes...He tried to get me to tell him what I was buying it for...I guess I was not my usual jovial self at that point...At no point did age come into the conversation...I guess I have passed the look of where I need to be carded... :lol:

He said he'd have to walk me up to the cashier, (I've heard the discussions before)...I kinda made a quip about you really have to hold my hand like that??? He said Company policy... :roll:

Oh well, it went ok...And I guess this is why I haven't bought ammo at WalMart very much before...

I remember at a rural WalMart during the Rita evac, I bought 12 ga. 00 buck and didn't have to have my hand held for that deal...I guess it has to do with where the store is... :roll:

I guess there is no moral to my story here... ;-)

They usually ask for ID at our local Wal-Mart.
It's usually a little old lady at the register; one day, she took a good look at me, then at my ID and said, "Well you're certainly over 21!" (by ten years.)
She's never asked for my ID since, but she does still make me pay for it there.

Venus, I would card you. :smile:

I hate Wal-Mart. I have found one guy who understood what I was looking for (20-gauge 1-ounce #8 shot). The others have acted almost brain-damaged. One day, the trip took 34 mintues from leaving the car to returning.

I normally go to Academy, but they haven't had cheap 20-gauge for months.

yeah, my MegaLoMart has an old geezer working in SportingGoods that always acts like I'm going open the box and just start cappin' the place.
the Skinny that works there just hands me my "evil" ammo.
They straight up won't let you leave the counter without paying for it.
these two lobotomy suspects make you pay for it seperately, too.

That sounds similar to the one I go to. Either you have to pay at the sporting goods counter, or they have to walk you to one of the front registers. I was carded there for the first time yesterday. They normally have a nice older gentlemen there, but they didn't have it staffed yesterday. When I pressed the call button, I got a woman who told me she didn't normally work that section (as an apology for having to try every key in both directions to get into the display) and by the time I was finished she was wide eyed and anxious to know "what [was I] planning on doing with *all* those bullets!?" He he. :grin:

That Walmart employee fed you a line of bologna. My Walmart (Beach St and N. Tarrant Pkwy in Ft Worth) has never escorted me to the register with ammo. :???:

Wal mart in Mansfield seems to always have someone behind the counter when I want to purchase AMMO. They let me pay for it there and walk away from the counter all over the store with it until I am ready to leave. No hand holding there.

I've never bought ammo at Walmart. Partly because I avoid the Super Walmart shopping experience...even though I have one about a mile from me.

And, Venus: I'd probably card you, too. ;-)

I buy WWB at the Galveston and Baytown Wallyworld. They have never escorted me out.

After several clerks looking for a hocho with a key to the cabinent for 9mm, when asked last week for ID (I'm 54) and the old "Is it for a handgun?" line, out of frustration, I replied "No, it's for a machine gun."

The transaction required a "supervisor override" from a mousy little guy that MIGHT have been 21. Then of course the old lady in wheel chair at the exit wanted to see my receipt ...

I refuse to participate in that receipt-checking nonsense. It's my property at that point, and they have no claim to search it. If they want to press the issue, I tell them that if they want to search my possessions, they need to call the police and be ready with articulable testimony or evidence that I've stolen something from their store.

Fry's Electronics has employees devoted to receipt-checking at the exit during all store hours. Fortunately, the company knows that they cannot force someone to have their possessions searched, and a simple "no thanks" has always sufficed when they ask for a receipt there. It's too bad Wal-Mart doesn't understand this. It is one of the many reasons I no longer voluntarily go to Wal-Mart.
