Frustrated and angry
Thank you for this thread. I have been seething for almost a week and this gives me some place to vent.
Completed the CHL class January 10, 2015.
Completed on-line application and received confirmation on January 12, 2015.
Fingerprints taken care of on January 13, 2015.
After 14 weeks, I decided to request a status.
Sent an on-line request for application status on April 21, 2015 and received confirmation.
Three more weeks go by with no response to my request so, on May 14th, over 17 weeks after receiving the confirmation
email stating that if they needed anything else, I would be contacted, I called and asked a real person to check the status
of my application. I was told they were waiting on my CHL class certification. That, of course was sent back in January
but I have sent it again.
All this time I have been waiting and they were doing nothing.
The confirmation email they send out states, "We will notify you by mail, if any further information or additional documents are required."
The truth is they don't so my advice to all is to call and check. Being "Mr. Nice Guy" and trying to be patient certainly didn't pay off for me.
We're coming up on 18 weeks since I sent in the application. I expected better from Texas and DPS. I should have known better.

Re: Frustrated and angry
I personally gave up years ago trusting people that say they will notify me or call me back. It doesn't matter who it is. It's like when someone tells me they'll be at my house to do some work at a certain time. Most don't make it and most don't even bother to call and give their lame excuses. Now if you did the same to them it would be a different story. I guess I'm old school, because I think if you tell someone you're going to do something you better do it or at least let them know why you can't do it. I guess the words respect and consideration no longer have any meaning. Hopefully it won't be long for you now. Now that you've done their job for them.

Dont feel alone on this one. I am on month 5 and was told last week it can be several more weeks before my payment will even be applied.

Strange. I wonder what the fastest approval method is, perhaps the order in which you apply online and send all the documents makes more of a difference than I thought.
For anyone else reading who hasn't started their process, I'd recommend doing the online application a couple weeks before you send everything out. Worked for me but maybe I'm an anomaly

Re: Frustrated and angry
I did my online application, did fingerprints, did class 09/01/2013 (first class after the change to how long the class was), certified mail the form that Monday the 2nd, had plastic in hand sometime towards the end of October. The online application was done like a week or two before fingerprints, then class was done a week after fingerprints roughly. So something like 9 weeks from start to finish for me. I've always lived in Texas, and never been arrested so wasn't much checking for them to have to do. Girlfriend just did her CHL stuff, and she lived in a couple of different states before. So I will post how long it takes her to get hers when the plastic finally arrives. See how much difference the different states makes (she did online application also).

Don't feel bad turned in all needed items back in March 2015, waited till 2nd week of May, nothing. Called and waited on hold for 30 min only to be told I turned in two apps? I explained I only filled out one app but was told IT Dept. would have to make changes to combine both into one. And that would take 10 days then the normal wait time. Awesome but no choice so I waited till today 6/30/15 spoke to yet another rep after a 30 min hold time. He looked at the info and said its still needing IT attention said he would have a supervisor call me tomorrow. I figure no chance they call me so I will call again tomorrow and see what happens.

Mine took 84 days and if I had not called them I'd still be waiting...

Re: Frustrated and angry
It took me 10 weeks plus to get a CHL after 2 rejections of fingerprint scans without reasons. Online queries don't seem to work - I did 2 of these with no reply. You just have to call and try to speak with someone who knows anything. Good luck.

Re: Frustrated and angry
Have you received you plastic yet?
I have much of the same story.
Application and email confirmation 5/8
Finger prints 5/13
CHL-100 and confirmation 5/15
6/16 called they said they had not received my CHL-100 after some conversation was told they had it, I gave it a couple of few days (trusting person I am) called back 6/23 same story waiting on my CHL-100 I spoke to this person ask if there is anything I could do, Very nice lady said she would take care of it and would send an email to whoever it needed to go to. I could hear her typing so that gave me some comfort she was doing what she said she would do.
Called back 6/26 (trusting person I am) to make sure BINGO, everything was together, the guy I talked checked on my status said everything looked good. If I didn't hear anything in a couple of weeks check back. So basically 27 working days it sat there nothing being done. BTW it only took 3 days for them to take the NON-REFUNDABLE application fee out of my account.
I guess what really ticks me off is as a law abiding citizen I have to jump through these hoops and a thug can go buy an illegal gun off the street and start carrying immediately.

Re: Frustrated and angry
gov workers, at least TX DPS eventually gets it done
I've worked with a lot of Fed agencies that would break your heart to see how little their folks do. Mostly they manage their break time, self given awards, and mile long job titles which change regularly.

Re: Frustrated and angry
My father in law and boss both received theirs in less than 9 business days last month.
