Actually the book was kinda vague on that issue. We can presume that you weren't, but in the book we really only encountered Citizens and those non-citizens who would become Citizens through service.
As far as I could tell from reading you were given all the same Rights and protections of Citizenship just not the ability to hold public office. If I remember correctly they did Require a Citizen to teach one class that must be attended by all but not graded. If I remember correctly too, some of the non-citzens saw getting citizenship as a way of being flashy or fancy. Its been a couple of years since I re-read it. I could be wrong.

There are also several Repubs that are not running for re-election. Most will likely be replaced by Repubs, but some might not.

It doesn't make any difference whether Dems or Republicans are in office.

The whole country is run by Goldman Sachs.

The socialism you decry is corporate socialism, where government money
bails out failed corporations.

Socialism that could favor the common person, dollarwise,
pales in comparison with what the corporations have received from federal
bailouts.
