You have to log everything acquired or disposed of while licensed, so whether or not you "used" your license doesn't matter.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that I would need to log everything? If I buy a Glock while licensed, I'd have to log it?

I'm waiting on my paperwork and was wondering about the logging requirement. I'll have to look over the cruffler.com site.
No, I'm only talking about C&R stuff. You don't log non-C&R arms.

You also don't have to log anything you own prior to being licensed, or which turns C&R while you're licensed, unless you want to dispose of it. If you log out something you've never logged in, you just note "acquired prior to license" in the "from" section, then out to the recipient.

What a C&R license does is allow you to purchase firearms over 50 years old and others specified by the BATFE directly from the seller without the need for a 4473 form, NICS check, or CHL and they can be shipped directly to your home. You do have to maintain purchase and disposition records. You are not to engage in a business, but you can sell firearms with the intent to better your collection. It's probably a good idea not to sell too many. However, some will buy lots, keep the best, and sell the rest.

It also qualifies you for decent discounts with some suppliers.

You're also correct that muzzleloaders and cap & ball pistols are not generally firearms. However, BATFE has classified muzzleloaders with some ignition systems to be firearms, such as those using shotgun primers.
They no longer have to be 50 yrs old to be on the ATF list. There are some only 30 yrs old, but have been deemed of "collectable value" esp foreign ones. I was looking at a catalog from J&G's and surprised how many were marked "C&R" beside them, esp the FEG and CZ's.

This is a timely thread. Like many others, I'd been put off applying for my C&R because I assumed (without checking, naturally) that the reporting burden would be onerous.

Yesterday I finally got round to looking it all up on the ATF site. As folks have said, they don't require much at all, so I sent off for the application pack the same day.

Correct. Which is why I covered that, also.

Sorry, I could not gather that from the wording. If there are English teachers on here they might correct me... but there is a difference between "and" and "or." Had I written your statement, I would have been trying to say that it must be 50 years old AND be in the list that the BATF has. I am a published author and professional speaker and that's how I would have meant it... but then my wife still corrects my grammar from time-to-time. Either way, it wasn't a case I did not see your statement, just understood it a different way. Either way, no harm for clarification, we all need that at times. :tiphat:

So if you get your C&R in Texas and move to another state (like New Mexico) can you keep your C&R?

I don't see why not - it's Federal, not State.
