From what I've read, Chief Kunkle has actually done a good job managing Dallas PD. He struck me as a guy who really cared about his work and his officers when he cried on TV during a press conference after a Dallas LEO was killed while serving a warrant.

I honestly hope they pick someone from within the department.

I totally agree. They already have senior officers that can handle the job. And it sure won't help morale if someone outside the department is chosen.

Dallas County DA Craig Watkins, while he might not be universally loved, doesn't seem to take kindly to rogue cops who insist on doing whatever they want despite what the law says. His DNA/Innocence initiative tells me he's very interested in actual justice, not headlines about convictions.
