I watched the first episode and thought it was just "ok." I'm really bothered by his use of a 6-shooter while his (now dead) cop buddies all had glocks... Please please does he get rid of the oversized revolver in favor of something more suited towards "hordes" of zombies?

Do you have Netflix? Its on streaming, thats where I watched it.


Also, yes the wife had a very short mourning period. But if you noticed the interaction between the main guy and his buddy when they were in the car eating burgers it seemed kind of odd... I suspected then that the buddy was having an affair with his wife, then you see what you see later... hmmm....

You know what? I think your right. I remember that scene being awkward, but I don't remember why. I bet they were trying to hint at issues but I was too dense to notice. Now I am going to have to watch episode 1 again.

So, I watch episode one again and noticed the main character telling his deputy to keep a round in the chamber and the safety off. Only the deputy appears to be carrying a Glock. Then, he proceeds to check the chamber and then swipe his thumb down right where a 1911 style safety would be and we are all rewarded with a 'click'.

Yep! I noticed that too. Did you see what I mean about their conversation? The buddy is trying to get him to say something bad about his wife and how terrible things must be with his wife, he's doing that to justify what he's doing with the guy's wife in secret. Thats my theory at least and it panned out later on when she all too quickly moved on.

Also, how does someone survive in a coma when nobody is there to change your IV bags? How do you not die of dehydration? Just sayin' Also, I don't remember him having a feeding tube to pull out of his throat either. AHHH!!! Must stop analyzing plot holes and focus on guns and heads exploding!

Yeah, I did see it this time. Like I said, I remember something was off about the conversation the first time. It was like they were trying to give us some back story, but I was too dense to make sense of it. Now I see what they were doing.

So how many of y'all are regularly watching "The Walking Dead"? I was floored by last night's episode - SHANE!!! How could you?!?!?

What a fantastic show. The writers force the characters to make the most soul-searching, devastating choices you can imagine - this show is about SURVIVAL; zombies are a side story. It is also quickly becoming a morality play comparing those who wish/hope/pray to hold on to the ethics of the nearly lost civilization with those who are more ready and able to adapt to a newfound survivalist moral code of an apocalyptic nightmare.

And some of those choices and drama involve firearms in a very real and honest way:

* one woman, who readily admits she's ready to "opt out" and just end it all, has her personal firearm "confiscated" from her by the wise old man of the group of survivors "for her sake", but also for the safety of the rest of the group (a single shot from a firearm can alert a swarm of hungry zombies who will hear the shot and stumble toward it looking for food). This whole story arc could be debated for months on a gun forum.

* Rule #4 (know what is BEYOND your target) is violated in the most devastating way by a man hunting deer

* Knowing how many rounds you have left in your weapon - and what you'll do with that last round - becomes a HUGE plot point in the latest episode

* as with most zombie fiction, shot placement (only head shots are effective on zombies) is vitally important

* hunting, tracking, and other outdoors skills (plus a silent-but-deadly crossbow) can be very advantageous in a world overrun by zombies

* multiple bullet fragments in a gunshot wound are a much more troublesome medical problem than a single slug

* situational awareness (and ability to hide/evade) is equally as important as skill with a firearm (perhaps more so)

... and that's all just in the first two episodes of this second season

I AM HOOKED

good stuff. I know from time to time I sort of cringe at the decisions the characters make. (c'mon, Shane and Otis make a slick entry plan into the porta-clinic, but have no exit plan other than to just come stumbling out? ) I suppose it would make for boring TV if all characters made the smart choice every time.

the character arcs are very interesting. I, too, was floored when they revealed just how Shane survived the medical supply run. I have to wonder how far down the path of the dark side he will be going. I also liked how Daryl Dixon is finding his way to becoming a decent person, now that he's relieved of his elder brother's influence.

I also found it interesting how firearms are more of a liability than an asset when it comes to walker elimination. like the time the lady hiding in the RV restroom couldn't get the glock pieces put back together, but if she had been successful, she could have doomed them all by firing it. the lowly .22 (my personal choice in this fictional world: suppressed 10/22) never gets any airtime in zombie movies. however, they do show the discreet benefits of the crossbow. with all that traveling the group has done, I'm rather shocked they didn't bother to raid a sporting goods store along the way, and equip everyone with a crossbow.

yep, I'm looking forward to this series, and doing my best not to wander to the Wiki site to dig up spoilers.
