Yes sir. My apologies.
In reality, I always look forward to Halloween. We have a guy on the block who always sets up an awesome display complete with animatronics and a haunted house. Many of us participate by dressing up and taking part.
I think I have more fun than the little ones that we try to spook.
Lets all remember when we were kids and make this one of
those special holidays that the kiddos enjoy and look forward to.
Be safe and have fun and...Happy Halloween !....BOO!

I'm just glad it's on a weekend this year. When its on a weekday, I'll invariably get stuck at work, and then drive home navigating through streets full of kids in dark costumes. Also sucks when my wife takes the kids trick or treating, and she has to leave an unguarded candy bowl if I'm not home. Usually lasts until the first group comes by and takes everything.
I usually err on the side of giving out way too much candy. Except for the one teen age girl last year who felt the need to let me know that my house was a "mess". I said "no candy for you".

High school kids are still kids and many of them enjoy halloween and trick or treating. And many of them are over 4'
I would rather them be running around with their little brothers and sisters helping them participate in trick or treating then out "partying" with older friends getting high, drunk, or preganant(or someone else pregnant)
So for me if they come to the door they get a piece of candy. I want to encourage them for choosing a better activity then more than half their friends and 90% of the rest of the high school kids who at that moment, are somewhere in an alter state of mind and couldnt say their abc's or even spell their own names.
Just my 2 cent
Happy Halloween Week and GO RANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like this idea. I get a lot of 6-footers and not too many little ones. I think I am going to try this out, only maybe I will up the ante and hook up a karoke machine with speakers outside. Now that would be fun. If they sing the song of my choosing, they deserve the candy! If I can get a 17 year old boy to do "my humps" by they black eyed-peas, I will get it on video and post it, and then gladly give him a mini hershey's.

I'm glad to hear the tradition lives on somewhere.
Even though I live in a relatively safe little town, the trick-or-treaters have been more and more sparse as the years go by. I remember years ago there might be 40 or 50 groups that would arrive at the door, but the last few years, there have been only 2 or 3.
In my community, it seems that door-to-door trick-or-treating has been replaced with "trunk-or-treat" at the local churches. People park in long rows in the church parking lots, pack boxes of candy in the trunks of their cars, and stand outside while the trick-or-treaters go car-to-car.
I certainly have no issues with this, and it does seem safer overall, it also seems to take away some of the charm of the occasion.

Some? Seems like it would take away
all the charm. My old church would have "Autumn Fest" or somesuch thing on halloween. Tons of games and candy prizes.
Edit: That was a big church though. I don't know if it'd be practical cost-wise for a small church or community. I think you had to bring a bag of candy per kid, but I don't recall having to buy a ticket or anything.

I'll be packing on Halloween thanks to my homemade costume. (see here:

Man, I remember going door-to-door when I was little...there was one lady on our street who gave out cans of soda!
Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to see many Trick-or-Treaters in my neighborhood...I'm more likely to see those teenagers with their saggy pants skulking around trying to smash pumpkins. *sigh* Is it sad that I'm only 21 and not so far removed from this generation of people who wear clothes that don't fit correctly?? I hate it!

LOL My wife's friend prepares two different sets little bags. One set full of assorted candy for the little ones, the other set full of dried macaroni for the ones that need to shave.

I've always wanted to put up some decorations and hide one of my dogs in their crate near the door. Each of them go absolutely berserk when a stranger comes near them in their crate. However, I wouldn't want to scare a little one too bad and we're usually out trick or treating with our daughter. By the time we get home it's pretty late, at least for me.

I do recall when I was living in Base housing, my buddy and I sitting in lawn chairs, with a cooler full of beer and a bowl full of candy. Cold beers for the dads and candy for the kids :)
