Just imagine how much worse it would be without Global Warming!

I'm writing my representatives now so they can pass a law requiring everyone to idle their vehicles for at least 6 hours a day and/or keep a coal burning grill going for the same amount of time. Should be able to warm this puppy right back up in no time.

What was interesting were the harsh shadows visible during the broadcast claiming he didn't see his shadow.

And since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

I have broken fire hydrants in weather like this just trying to get the cap off, the problem is it was in upstate NY, where this kind of weather is not that unusual. We pulled up at the scene of a fire, and the hydrant man went that way while I, the officer on the truck, went the other way. I came around to the hydrant side of the truck with the steamer hose, and there stood Dougie with the broken hydrant wrench, half the cap, and a chunk of the nipple in his hands. No way we were going to pump from that hydrant anyway, it was frozen solid. We saved the structures surrounding the lumber yard office.

I lived in Kansas for 6 years, trust me....this ISN'T cold.

I know its all relative to where you live and what you are used to, but I have to laugh sometimes when folks start talking about how cold it is....just because it got a bit below freezing (16° here this morning).

Went down to about 9 degrees this AM in parts of the DFW area. When I worked on the North Slope in Alaska, that was considered T-Shirt Weather. Coldest I saw there was 65 below zero, and with a 30 MPH wind it was well below -100F. We were stranded at a rig for 5 days, as our flying cutoff was -54F. It was so cold that when any of the fork lifts tried to lift anything heavy, their forks snapped off. All activity ceased, and we were forced to watch movies all day and eat like pigs. Tough job

It was around 30F at noon today. When I went out to do some errands, I noticed that a lot of the surrounding neighborhoods didn't have power. Fortunately, it didn't affect my house.

I understand. I spent most of February a couple of years ago in Calgary (it was -35f while I was there). I've also spent December and January in Copenhagen where the actual temperature isn't as bad as the bone chilling damp cold that comes off of the Baltic.

But...

If I wanted to live in Greenbay, I would have moved there. :cryin

There is nothing like 19 degrees and no electricity to make the season enjoyable. BTW, ERCOT says that the outages only last 10 minutes but news reports in DFW say that they have been several hours and, in some areas, have occurred multiple times already.
Had four blackouts today near Cypress. The first was shortly after 6:00 a.m., the last around 1:00 p.m. The shortest was over 20 minutes, and the longest was about an hour. The forecast is for more rolling blackouts tomorrow.

Supposedly, the cause was frozen and burst water pipes at two electricity generating plants in north-central Texas. One of those is a relatively new plant. I'll bet the reason power stations on the grid can't insulate their pipes and keep them from bursting will be a point of contention for a while to come. News reports said that 400,000 homes and businesses were affected by the blackouts in the Houston area. I can understand when my power goes off during a hurricane, but just because the temperature dropped to 20 degrees? That's T-shirt weather in Green Bay...

And Pittsburgh. Imagine how many homes they could power by cutting off power to Cowboys Stadium for the next week. :evil2:
