Walmart has federal value pack ammo 55gr fmj brass. 100 rounds for $40. Best price for the quality of ammo around. I refrain from buying ammo at academy due to prices being higher than at other places where it's readily available. :thumbs2: :fire
If you run across some Winchester Q3131A1 (a specific code of their 5.56 55gr FMJ), grab some up. I have found it to be very accurate in my rifle. From what I've read, it's the standard Israeli 5.56 round.

If you ever get near Brenham, it's worth a stop at Ammunition To Go to make a bulk ammo purchase, sans shipping. I've been known to make the drive all the way out there from Austin just to pick up ammo (and perhaps stop at the creamery for a tour).

I've also found that the PMC Bronze .223 is quite good, and you can usually find it for something like $9/box.

The previously-mentioned federal bulk pack has worked well for me, though I haven't done any accuracy tests on it yet. Federal's brass is quite nice, if you're into reloading.

I personally stay away from steel-cased .223, but i have friends who run it.

And yeah, I don't buy .223 ammo from Academy. Selection is poor, and what they have is overpriced. They charge $3 more oer box for their Monarch than I pay at Cabela's for PMC.

What twist is the barrel?

if its 1:9 go with 55gr and if it's 1:7 go with 62gr or heavier. Mine is a 1:7 so the heavier bullets are more accurate than the 55gr variety.

Nice rifle, gotta like the m&p if you can't afford a Larue. like me :grumble

What model is yours exactly? Are you going to keep it black or accent it with another color?

P.S. I'd suggest putting a free floating handguard on it.

Thanks! Yeah, I think for my next one I may try to build a LaRue. This one is a learning experience though. The model is M&P150R. Handguards are next. Going to the gun show tomorrow to see what I can find. Came across a used Eotech, so I picked that up as well. I plan on just keeping it all black.

Any suggestions on the handguards? I was looking at Troy and Spikes.

Hey Jcarp, just noticed that you are in Santa Fe.

Meet up and play with the AR's at the Texas City Range sometime?

Just let me know after you get all the goodies put on it. Next couple of weekends look like they are booked, maybe able to sneak out on a Sunday.
