What I can't understand is why he gave them fair warning. Why not wait until they boarded the plane? That would have made passage a fait accompli. They could have protested all they want about unfairness, but what they are doing is unfair. It makes absolutely no sense to me that a bill needs a two thirds vote just to come to the floor of the Senate. (I wrote a lot more but deleted it all, because it would be inappropriate for this forum. Suffice it to say that I despise politics and politicians.)

I agree with the two-thirds rule in the Senate, because if the political winds ever change, this is how we could kill an anti-gun bill that had majority support.

Wentworth has something up his sleeve. That's my feeling. Or maybe it's just gas...

That is precisely what is wrong with it. The minority should not be able to hold the majority hostage. As President Obama said, elections have consequences. If you don't want the anti-gunners to run things, then get out there and talk to your family, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers, and get them to vote for legislators who support the second amendment. The WRONG way to legislate is by making rules that make it more difficult for bills to be considered. Laws should not be held hostage to political games. Legislators should have to vote, up or down, and then defend their votes at the ballot box. They should not be able to hide behind, "Well, it never came to a vote. If it had, I would have voted for it." when everyone including the gardener knows they never would have voted for it.

They should never be allowed to vote "present" either. Yes or No, period.
