Thank you to all ... I decided to take the SR9c only - and it couldn't have gone smoother - at least for this leg of the trip.

Which brings up a question I've been wondering about. What are the rules regarding shipping a firearm to yourself, with respect to use of an FFL?
If an FFL is not required, is it permissible to ship to yourself, care of somebody at your destination?
For example, I had a relative that wanted to ship a couple of guns for use at a family reunion we were having. I told him he'd have to ship to a FFL local to me, then I could pick up the firearms from the FFL, and have them when he arrived. Could he have shipped them to himself, care of me, and avoided the FFL?
If you can FEDEX or UPS a pistol back to the manufacturer for warranty service, with no questions from the shipper, ( I just sent one via FEDEX) I imagine you could send it to the hotel C/O yourself and give the desk clerk a heads up that you would b receiving a package.

You can ship a gun to yourself. When I used to hunt interstate I would ship the guns ahead, saved a lot of hassle.

[18 U.S.C. 921(a)(32), 922(g)(8) and 925(a)(1)]
(B9) May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?
Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.
