Hmmm. John Lennon, wasn't he killed in New York City by a loser with a gun who just wanted to be famous. Guns were illegal in NYC then, so how are they going to make them more illegal now.

By turning the current legal gun owners into criminals. The Journal News interactive gun owner map's real purpose was to make it easy for the NY State authorities to start confiscation. That is what the governor publicly stated that he wanted.

The good people of NY have the government that that the voted for. I wish them well with ti. Small drinks, no pain killers and no guns. Sounds like a great place to pay high taxes to.

Seriously, I thought the full-size ones were 8-rounds for flush-fitting and 10-rounds for extended magazines. Am I just thinking of P220 mags?

New York, California, and Illinois can pass all the laws they want. It will not make them a safer or give them less crime until they realize you have to give the criminals an active deterent.

The rumblings are that they just passed this in the NY Senate. Of course based on the below it looks far more dastardly then you might imagine:

Bans > 7 round magazines, only grandfathers 10 rounds or less (but can only be loaded with 7 rounds), rest must be sold out of state within one year (or confiscated). What seems to be worse is an "Assault Weapon" is classified as any pistol/rifle that has one "military" characteristic + detachable magazine.

Without knowing what a "military" characteristic might be, this could basically ban all semi-auto handguns (picatinny rail anyone?)

New York residents just got it good and hard...

*Edit* The actual legislation says for pistols.... folding/thumbhole stock, accepts magazine outside of grip, threaded barrel, any weapon that can be held with non trigger hand without getting burned, weighs more then 50 oz. unloaded, + some additional provisions I'm too lazy to read.

Guess that just made all of the city/state police's sidearms illegal... their intent was to attack "barrel shrouds/the thing that goes up" but the wording makes a Glock an assault weapon.

M1911a1 magazines were designed to be 7 rounds in capacity. The "Modern" or "Custom" magazines with an 8 round capacity have the same dimensions as the 7 round magazines, the changes which allow the 8th round are in the magazine follower and it's spring. The 7 round follower takes up a lot of room in the magazine and by changing the design, manufacturers were able to squeeze in another round. As with any change in design there are un-intended consequences. Basically the early 8 round designs couldn't reliably feed the 8th round(diving, falling off the bolt face, etc.)This was addressed in another round of follower design changes and increasing stronger springs(11 and 12 pounds). I've heard that the new high end 8 rounders perform flawlessly. I just like my old ultra reliable Colt magazines that never fail to perform. Just like me.

This new restriction is no good for our 2nA and when Feds are shut down with their drive for more gun-grabbing laws. NRA would go challenge the new restrictions as unconstitutional.

Man, I do love to live in TX. No matter how many job offers I got, I would never move to CA nor NY. Upper state NYers would hate their new gun laws.

It has already worked out for me, my carry gun is a Kahr K9, formerly owned by a NY police officer until the department determined they could not have those evil guns that don't have a 15 lbs triggers. It is 100% reliable, a pretty gun (I like pretty things ) and it was priced very reasonable.
