I'm actually sad that he likely died unsaved.
2 Peter 3:9
English Standard Version (ESV)
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,[a] not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
1 Timothy 2:3-4
English Standard Version (ESV)
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
And the verses that Fred Phelps did not appear to understand, nor his family either:
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
I am actually sorry that I did not pray for his heart to be softened while he was still alive and able to repent. That gives me cause for repentance.

While praying for that man would have been a Christian thing to do on your part, I don’t believe anything would have been accomplished.

I truly believe Fred Phelps was a minion of satin. I believe he was sent to disparage our savior and cast a bad light on Christianity. On his signs he proclaimed “God hates”. I saw one that said "It's too late to pray". The truth is, it's never too late to pray.

God doesn’t hate anyone. He may be disappointed in some things we do and he may even become angry at us, but he is a forgiving God. I believe Fred Phelps was beyond redemption.

Pray for the family.
