OK Just pulled the black out of the oven.
It did not coat as well as the red did for sure.

They may be covered enough to work, they just don't look as good.

I may end up keeping the black for other projects and use only red for my bullets.

I have one pound of each color, and so far I have only used about 1 TSP of powder for everything I have done so far. I may have a lifetime supply!

Besides the 'double-bake', I think I read that a convection oven is required for the Hi-Tek coating which is more expensive than what is needed for PC.

Yes a convection oven would be a show stopper for me! I don't even have one to cook my pizza in, so I'm not buying one for my boolits.

As stated earlier, I have less than $50 in the whole setup I am using. This includes my $10 toaster oven.

OK last pic for the day.

These are rifle boolits for my 300 AAC. I coated them, and tossed them on their side to bake them. I did not want to try and balance them standing up on the trip to the oven.

The only down side I experienced on this bake, was realizing I should have used a fresh piece of Non-stick foil. The only ridges and imperfections were from the boolits sicking to the powder that had been cured to the foil from previous batches. Other than that, there was not any globing or any imperfections I could see.

I am done with my initial testing for now. I need to cast some fresh slugs and experiment with other variables. (amount of powder, amount of Airsoft BB's, Temp, humidity, etc)

It has been fun. Now time to stuff them in some brass and check function and accuracy!

Bullets look good.
With all the hype these days about the PC bullets, I've got the project on the back burner waiting it's turn.

One problem or issue I have is that I just made a large batch of home made bullet lube several months ago and still have a bunch.
It's not really holding me up, but it's my excuse at this time.

I know that AndyC and I were talking about this almost a year ago, I know he has made some but I have been hanging back.

Maybe soon??

I have less than $50 invested in the whole process. I coated 300 today and used about 2 Tbs of powder. I should have enough to coat a few thousand at this rate.

Your bullets look great, especially for someone who just started. I'm beginning to think there's something problematic about black for dry tumbling. Most everyone who tries black reports coverage less than optimal compared to almost every other color. In fact, I've only seen one photo of black bullets that were dry coated (swirled) and look perfect. Andy, picking the coated bullets out of the BBs and powder with a pair of tweezers or a Hemostat takes almost as much time as baking does the only way I see to increase production would be to have several folks involved in the process.
