I had a similar thing happen 35 years ago. A drunk from the apartments across the street from us kicked in the door of the apartment above us. Fortunately the guy who lived there wasn't home. We called the police and they found the drunk guy sitting in the apartment thinking he was home.

Fortunately his apartment was on the second floor. When we heard the guy come in the front doors hollering like mad, I got out my 16 gauge shotgun. If he had kicked down our door I was prepared to shoot. I am always thankful that he went upstairs instead. BTW that was Memorial Day weekend as well.

He died of a serious case of "TERMINAL STUPIDITY".

According to a report from the NBA's senior vice president and chief security officer that was sent to teams and obtained by ESPN, no charges have been filed against the apartment resident. Under Texas law, a person is allowed to use deadly force to defend themselves in their home. It also says a person using force cannot provoke the attacker or be involved in criminal activity at the time.

Here we go. Nice setup in trying to blame the victim instead of the criminal.

Well no, actually. I don't think I trust the press more than anyone else, but it is in fact a summary of the Texas implementation of the Castle Doctrine. But to put some spin on it, given that the statement "no charges have been filed" leads, it can equally be read that obviously the guy who lived in the apartment did not provoke the attack nor was doing anything criminal at the time.
