While I usually agree, this is beyond what I can handle and defend.

The committe who awarded it to him has said they only did it as a barb at President Bush.

If he had any class at all, he would have declined to accept an award only given to irk a current President.
How do you know this? President Bush (W) is pretty thick skinned. I don't think he cares one bit.

You seem to have a lot of knowledge about President Carter for someone born 6 years after he was President. What is the basis of your knowledge of the man? I'm not trying to pick a fight, I would truly like to know.

I don't think you're picking a fight, and don't mind answering one bit. :tiphat:

I'm a history major, and as such, find the statement "You seem to have a lot of knowledge about President Carter for someone born 6 years after he was President" fairly amusing. If we only viewed those who lived through an event as qualified to comment upon it, our history textbooks would be short indeed.

There is plenty of historical evidence for the results of the Carter presidency that anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of research would be able to draw the conclusion that his Presidency was a failed one fairly quickly.

As to the political implications of the Nobel prize Carter was awarded:

the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, "In a situation currently marked by threats of the use of power, Carter has stood by the principles that conflicts must as far as possible be resolved through mediation and international cooperation based on international law, respect for human rights, and economic development." (Emphasis added by me)

Seems like a fairly obvious barb towards Bush era foreign policy to me, especially considering it was given in 2002.
