Former Pres Carter attacks NRA on AWB

Post by TxD »

Here's some of the things he said.

"But none of us wants to own an assault weapon, because we have no desire to kill policemen or go to a school or workplace to see how many victims we can accumulate before we are finally shot or take our own lives. That’s why the White House and Congress must not give up on trying to reinstate a ban on assault weapons, even if it may be politically difficult."

Break:

"Instead, the N.R.A. is defending criminals’ access to assault weapons and use of ammunition that can penetrate protective clothing worn by police officers on duty."

Break:

"We can’t let the N.R.A.’s political blackmail prevent the banning of assault weapons — designed only to kill police officers and the people they defend."

I wonder if the peanut farmer is still bitter about the drubbing he got from Ronald Reagan with the help of the NRA? Carter was an embarrassment from the day he took the oath of office and he still a buffoon. He's made more inappropriate comments for a former President than all of the others put together.

Not me, I learned a long time ago: There is nothing more common than "Educated/Intelligent Idiots" (well...maybe SAND is more common). ;-)

I am all for higher education, but it is no insurance...you won't get an idiot.

It is still amazing to me that Mr Carter was a part of the nuclear Navy. Does anybody know what his "job title" actually was during that period?

Engineering Officer as I recall.

He is what my first NCOIC described as, "Smart as all heck, but not a lick of common sense".

I am for sure would like to have the highest restrictions on criminal not to have easy access to firearms. I would support severe penalties for anyone who willing aid, facilitate or supply firearms to gangs, mobsters, or average joe criminals.

All that training and he still couldn't figure out how to pronounce it.

Maybe Carter should have had an 'assault weapon' when attacked by the 'killer rabbit'!

I've often considered Jimmy Carter a pretty strong arguement against our democratic process. Just proves that no process is perfect but my goodness, this man has proven time and again that he is incapable of forming a logical thought.

I take his statement as simply a continuation of the same failed decision making that he used while he was POTUS. His briliance in that effort has placed him at or very near the bottom of the ratings for past presidents.

His non-concern for allowing common people to provide for the protection of their families, and apparent ignorance for criminal element's disregard for existing laws, begs the question of whether Secret Service protection for past Presidents of the United States is nothing more than a very expensive opportunity for the spread of senility to go un-checked by the common law of the land. I just wonder if his attitude would change if his tax payer provided "personal protectors" didn't have their assualt rifles protecting him and his family.

During his presidential campaign they often touted that Jimmy was a "nuclear engineer." He was not. Some sources state that his title in the Navy was "surface warfare officer."

Who said he was intelligent?

Carter was the result of a backlash vote due to Nixon's perceived abuse of power. I remember the Wednesday after his announced election quite well. He won by a landslide yet I couldn't find a single person who voted for him anytime in the next four years. Oh, the horror!

The fear is not the elected, it's the electorate that makes the elected the elected. :eek6

Edit PS:

Didn't the present POTUS get elected pretty much the same way Carter did? Is it really true that history repeats itself?
